Orange Moon. Thursday, October 1, 2026 "A Reminder"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

“A Reminder”

    God can be trusted.

Of course.  You would not be reading these words, and I would not be writing them if we did not believe in the perfect faithfulness of our Heavenly Father.  However, as my grandson Jackson once said about a matter we will consider in another message, “Sometimes it’s good to have a reminder.”

This especially applies to trusting God since “The just shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17).  The present world in which we live tempts us to neglect or even temporarily forget the promises of our Lord and the calling to “in all thy ways acknowledge Him” (Proverbs 3:6).  We require frequent promptings of recollection, sometimes as a splash of bracingly cold water in the face - “Wait just a minute!  Is God not present, involved, and active in this matter that tempts me to uncertainty?  Has He forgotten to be faithful?  Can I not trust His Word, based on the perfect integrity of His heart?  Will I not, as I have so often in days gone by, find Him perfectly trustworthy in being and doing whatever I require in the challenge?”

The Apostle Peter addressed the matter of our need for reminders:

“Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth” (II Peter 1:12).

“You know them and are established in them” declared Peter.  “I am nevertheless going to put you in remembrance of them.”  The Apostle well knew from his own experience that even the most knowledgable and aware believer requires reminders of God’s perfect and faithful care of His children in every matter.  He will act according to that which is best for us, which may not always coincide with our understanding in the moment.  However, we all know that we will one day look back on our lifetime in the complete awareness that our Heavenly Father worked perfectly in fulfilling every promise He ever made to His trusting sons and daughters in Christ.  “All the promises of God in Him are yea” (II Corinthians 1:20).

We will not, however, look back on having perfectly remembered and believed His affirmations of assurance.  Thus, we need reminders along the way.  Count this consideration as one of those, written first to remind my own heart, and if necessary, yours as well.  Remind of what?  The faithfulness of the God who “cannot lie” and whose every word proceeds from a heart so beautifully and sublimely trustworthy that eternity will not be long enough to adequately praise it (Titus 1:2).  This is a good moment for such an offering from your heart and mine, and may the  Psalmists’s confession of remembrance and the only appropriate response lead us in our own…

“When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me.  For I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.”

(Psalm 42:4)

Weekly Memory Verse

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

(Hebrews 11:1)
