The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe
"Lord and Servant"
"So after He had washed their feet, and had taken His garments, and was set down again, He said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you" (John 13:12-15).
As beautiful as the example of Lordship exercised with the heart of a servant, the disciples required further grace to make possible their fulfillment of "do as I have done unto you."
"Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying Abba Father" (Galatians 4:6).
The great and humble Son and Servant came to dwell within those who trust Him after His death, resurrection, and ascension. Thereby, the Lord Jesus Christ makes possible a life such as He lived whereby we wash the feet of others in countless ways. "By love serve one another" (Galatians 5:13). Our Lord lives in us so that we may "live through Him" (I John 4:9). As He does, we can be sure He will lead us to tread the path of devotion to God and others, the path He paved by example, and empowers us to tread by indwelling. "I will dwell in them and walk in them" (II Corinthians 6:16).
The path beckons us in this day, the way of Christ that has become our way through His presence and working. How will He grant us the privilege of humbling ourselves before God - "Abba Father" - and people - "by love serve one another?" We may know some steps of servitude that await us. Others may present unexpected opportunity to follow the example and enabling of the Servant/Lord who both commands and empowers. We could never live such a life as He lived apart from His life working in us to motivate the humility foreign to us, but innate in the King who serves and the Servant who reigns. We can and must live such a life as the One who washed disciples' feet grants us the privilege to "walk even as He walked" - and to kneel even as He knelt (I John 2:6).
"Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor."
(Ephesians 5:2)
"Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light, and ye shall find rest unto your souls." (Matthew 11:28).
Weekly Memory Verse
"Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father."
(Matthew 10:29)
