The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe
"Persistent Consistency "
Persistent consistency characterizes the lives of those who seek to walk with God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Perfect consistency, however, is not available or attainable in this present lifetime.
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us" (I John 1:8).
While no excuses exist for individual lapses in faithfulness, it remains true that we sometimes fail to avail ourselves of the grace always at hand and in heart that enables our "walk in love… in newness of life… by faith…in the Spirit… in the light… in worthiness… in circumspection… in wisdom… in honesty… in truth… after His commandments" (Ephesians 5:2; Romans 6:4; II Corinthians 5:7; Galatians 5:16; I John 1:7; Colossians 1:10; Ephesians 5:15; Colossians 4:5; Romans 13:13; III John 1:4; II John 1:6).
The Christian life involves a step by step by step journey of accessing God's motivation, guidance, and enabling. Of course, we do not think of Him and His involvement in every moment. Our minds do not have this capacity. However, we can and must frequently remember that our journey along the path of righteousness cannot and will not happen apart from the Lord of righteousness who dwells within us to empower every step. "Without Me, ye can do nothing… I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (John 15:5; Philippians 4:13). We therefore seek to take many opportunities to recall and affirm the grace that makes possible our persistence in consistency.
Perfection one day by the grace of God in Christ - this is the promise to come. "We shall be like Him" (I John 3:2). Persistence now by the same grace - this is the goal at present. "Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (II Peter 3:18). Consistency does not come easy, even as led and empowered by the Holy Spirit. It can and must come, however, as we seek to ever more faithfully walk with God in trust and trustworthiness. We "look unto the Author and Finisher of our faith" for the power to more persistently and consistently take step after step after step (Hebrews 12:2). Indeed, the Christ who walked in perfect consistency during His earthly lifetime now dwells in us to motivate and enable our growing persistence in consistency. May we respond in confidence, expectation, and the determination to avail ourselves of the grace whereby we…
