A Place That I Know

A Place That I Know music and lyrics

Run to Jesus

Glen:  Most songs I remember writing, at least to some degree, and recording, at least to some degree. Not this one, however (except recording the harmony guitar parts, which was really challenging and fun, as I recall). If I didn't recognize the voices, I'd almost have to say that somebody else did it. So it's interesting that it ended up first on the CD.

Frances:  Like Glen, I don't even remember recording this song, it just seems as if it came out of no-where. When we sing it, it's as if a part of me is being set free, it feels so natural. There are some songs we sing that I know if I didn't sing them for ten years, I'd still know every note and every word. This is one of those songs.

Run to Jesus

There’s a place that I know,
Where the hopeless can go.
Broken hearts there are healed,
And the face of God revealed.

Oh, run into the arms of Jesus.
Bow before His holy wounded feet.
Run into the arms of Jesus.
Run to Peace.

There’s a Savior of Grace.
Mercy shines in His face.
And if you trust in His name,
He will save us from our shame.

Oh, run into the arms of Jesus.
Bow before His holy wounded feet.
Run into the arms of Jesus.
Run to Peace.

There’s a place that I know,
Where the hopeless can go.
Broken hearts there are healed,
And the face of God revealed.

Oh, run into the arms of Jesus.
Bow before His holy wounded feet.
Run into the arms of Jesus.
Run to Peace.  Run to Peace.
Run to Peace.

He Delighteth

There is a place of forgiveness of grace,
Our God delighteth in mercy.
For all who come by the way of the Son,
Will find His pardon so plenty.

He delighteth,
Our God delighteth, He delighteth,
Our God delighteth in mercy.

Blood has been shed,
Christ is risen from the dead.
Our God delighteth in mercy.
So fall to your knees,
His forgiveness receive,
Our God delighteth in mercy.

He delighteth,
Our God delighteth, He delighteth,
Our God delighteth in mercy.

There is a place of forgiveness and grace,
                                      Our God delighteth in mercy.

When All Is Said and Done

Glen:  One night about 20 years ago, our family was going out to dinner. As I sat on the bed waiting for everybody to get ready, playing my guitar, this song landed in my lap pretty much whole (music and lyrics). I'd be hard pressed to say it is not my favorite of all the songs I've ever written, and I love how it came out in production also.

Frances:  I can clearly remember that night Glen wrote this song. He played it for me and the harmony/echo part as you hear it on the CD is just about the same as the first time I sang that part for him. There are few of our songs that happened that way.

When All Is Said and Done

When all is said and done only One will be left standing.
When all is said and done only One will be left standing.
When all is said and done only One will be left standing
on nail scarred feet,
on nail scarred feet.

Every knee shall bow and every tongue will be confessing.
Every knee shall bow and every tongue will be confessing.
Every knee shall bow and every tongue will be confessing
Jesus is Lord

In this very hour we worship you Lord Jesus.
In this very hour we adore you Lord Jesus.
In this very hour we love you Lord Jesus,
with all of our hearts,
with all or our hearts,
with all of our hearts,
with all of our hearts.

Avete le Fede
Glen: This is our eldest daughter's life motto, in Italian. When she told us about this, I just knew there was a song in it. There was.

Frances: This is absolutely one of my favorite songs of all time. Beyond Orange Moon, it may be my favorite song of ours. The fact that our daughter wrote the words is so touching to me. When Glen took them and made them into a song, it was just perfect.

I love singing this song, it always “feels” right.

When we were first singing it and recording it, we couldn’t get it straight if it was “will live well” or “shall live well”. Our daughter’s original motto was “will live well”, but over time we decided the “shall” worked out better in the song.

Avete le Fede
Avete la fede in Deo sempre bene viveremo.

Avete la fede in Deo sempre bene viveremo.

Have faith in God always, have faith in God always
and we shall live well, and we shall live well.

Avete la fede in Deo sempre bene viveremo.
Avete la fede in Deo sempre bene viveremo.

Have faith in God always, have faith in God always
and we shall live well, and we shall live well,
                                                  and we shall live well.

Adagio, (for Christ the Creator)

(Instrumental)

Someone Had to Die
T'was the blood of patriots that made and keeps us free,
and still their lifeblood flows to guard, to guard sweet liberty.
But it doesn't seem to flow so freely, the river of my thanks,
how rarely does it seem that I have knelt to offer thanks.

Oh give me a heart, my Lord, with eyes that ever see,
that freedom is so many things, but it is never free.
And help me to remember, Lord, oh keep it close at hand,
that this song was written with the blood spilled in so many lands.

T'was the blood which flowed at Calvary which made and keeps us free,
and at the throne of God and Christ it still avails for me.
And I wish that far more than I have my heart had given praise,
how rarely does it seem that I have knelt and offered thanks.
Oh give me a heart, my Lord, with eyes that ever see,
that freedom is so many things, but it is never free.
And help me to remember, Lord, oh keep it close at hand,
that this song was written with the blood spilled in so many lands.

The Savior said the truth shall make us free and I believe,
for He lived and taught and bore the cross, His grace we might receive.
And the truth that He was speaking of, the bright and shining light,
is that if we are to know sweet freedom, Someone had to die.

Oh give me a heart, my Lord, with eyes that ever see,
that freedom is so many things, but it is never free.
And help me to remember, Lord, oh keep it close at hand,
that this song was written with the blood spilled in so many lands.

See the Baby
See the Baby, Look into His face,
Hear the Spirit, As He speaks of love and grace,
As He speaks of love and grace.
In the humble manger, Glory from above,
Lies in quiet splendor,The gift of grace and love,
The gift of grace and love.
Look upon the Baby, Fall unto your face,
For lying in the manger, is the Lord of love and grace.
He is the Lord of love and grace.

Alma Mater
Capstone Christian School Alma Mater

Onward and upward we arise,
Borne on eagles’ wings.
Seeking the wisdom God provides
For great and noble things.

We will remember fondly
These days of truth and light,
And all who helped to guide our way
Unto our future bright.

Tomorrow beckons, come and see
The life our Lord will give.
His promises we will believe,
And for His glory live.

We will remember fondly
These days of truth and light,
And all who helped to guide our way

Unto our future bright.
So
One day so long ago,
Our Lord died for us, this we know.
Oh how He must love us so.
Oh how He must love us so.

One day not so long ago,
His Spirit came into my heart I know.
Oh how He must love me so.
And how I long to love Him so.

One day to Him we will go,
And His glory forever we will know.
And oh how Hell love us so,
Oh how we will love Him so,
For with perfect hearts we’ll love Him so.
So.

We’ll Sail This Morning

September 2nd

(Instrumental)

Why Do They Sing?

Why do they sing,
these men who've lost everything?
How can they smile,
when their hearts must be so broken?

Whence comes the song
in a life that must seem so wrong?
Why do they sing?
Oh why, why do they sing?

I think I see the source of their melodies.
I think I hear the voice in their rhapsody
It tells of a hope for those
lost so long ago.
Why do they sing?
Oh why, why do they sing?

I know why they sing.

Jesus, Jesus, oh, Jesus.
Jesus, Jesus, oh, Jesus.

Why do they sing, oh, why?
I know why they sing. . .

Jesus.

This Is Calvary

Glen: I love the musical simplicity of this song. Keeping it simple is the hardest thing for songwriters to do, and to accomplish well. I don’t' know if I actually did that, but there's something about the starkness of this piece that I'm glad about.

Frances: When I first heard this song, I didn't like it nearly as much as I do now, and that saddens me. Having sung it a great deal, it has become one of my favorites.

It is simple, as Glen said, but that allows the depth of the message to pour through. I like too, how with the simplicity of the arrangement, the beauty of the guitar part really shines.

This Is Calvary

Sorrow and pain, Oh, sorrow and pain,
and a Lamb that was slain.

Sorrow and pain, Oh, sorrow and pain,
and a Lamb that was slain.

Oh this, oh this is Calvary.
This is the price that He paid
for you and me.
Sorrow and pain, Oh, sorrow and pain,
and a Lamb that was slain.

Thorns, nails and blood and a heart that was torn,
and a soul so alone, so alone.

The darkest of night every comfort aflight,
yes, a soul so alone, so alone.

Oh this, oh this is Calvary.
This is the price that He paid for you and me.
Sorrow and pain, Oh, sorrow and pain,
and a Lamb that was slain.

We can never repay the sad price of that day,
when our Savior gave all, He gave all.

We can choose to recall, and to our knees we can fall,
and give our thanks for the price that He paid.

Oh this, oh this is Calvary.
This is the price that He paid
for you and me.
Sorrow and pain, Oh, sorrow and pain,
and a Lamb that was slain.

All in Jesus
Glen:  In music, there is a principle of tension/resolution that gives songs drama and character. I feel this when singing or hearing this song. And the "All in Jesus" refrain always seems to me to denote our rest in Christ.

Frances:  This is easily one of my favorites, on many different venues. It is in my top five.

I love the message --
"There is hope for the hopeless. . .", who else but Christians can say that?

I love the harmonics of the song. I wish you could see my copy of the words, there are little arrows up and down to remind me of what my voice needs to do, since the same phrase "All in Jesus" repeats so often. When we sing it live, I have to keep count of how many times I've sung "All in Jesus" to know when the end of the chorus is coming.

There are some songs which I like more singing live and some which I like more in the recorded version, but this one wins in both categories to me. I do love the "Orange Moon Choir" effect we obtained in the recorded version. I don't know how many different tracks we laid down for the verses on this song, but it sounds like we have a whole group in there.

When we sing it live, I love the echoes and the way they flow in and out of each other. I think it represents our relationship well. We echo each other and seem to flow in and out of each other in an easy, comfortable manner.

I especially love the part when Glen echoes me in the bridge. I had recorded one of my parts and added that "All in Jesus" in the bridge. When I listened to it later he had come back and added the echo to it, and it has became my favorite part of the song.

All in Jesus
There is hope for the hopeless.
There is sight for the blind.
There is life for the dying.
There is peace you can find,
All in Jesus.  All in Jesus
All in Jesus.  All in Jesus

There is Grace for this moment.
There is strength for today.
There is joy in His presence.
Such glory shines in His face.
All in Jesus.  All in Jesus.  All in Jesus.
All in Jesus.  All in Jesus.  All in Jesus.
All in Jesus.  All in Jesus.

Orange Moon

Everlasting Love
Glen:  I have chosen to end our last three projects with this song because it addresses the heart of the matter, namely the love of God. Although the words, "I have loved thee with an everlasting love", were directed to Israel, there is certainly an implication in them for all who love God, and are loved by Him. Also, one of my favorite moments in the songs we have recorded occurs at the end of this song when Frances echoes the words "an everlasting love". Sublime.

Frances:  I knew from the very first time I heard this song what my part would be, it's as if it came with the song.

There aren't many songs that I can specifically remember recording, but this is one. I remember exactly where I was sitting and how the recording went. I loved the bells on the recording, I thought Glen did a perfect job with them (he knows I love the bell sounds!) I love the chord progressions in the song so it was a joy to record and it has remained one of my favorites. I am so glad that we put it at the end of all our projects, like a little reminder that the Lord's love will never fail.

Everlasting Love
I have loved you with an everlasting Love,
I have given to your needy heart
The Spirit of my Son.
You can know with perfect certainty
My Heart will never turn.
I will love you with an everlasting Love.
I will love you with an everlasting Love.
Everlasting Love.
