The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…
“The Presence, In the Present”
The future never actually arrives, becoming the present in the moment of its advent. Thus, as much as it seems to the contrary, we ever live in the now of each moment, and of truth and reality.
Even more, we live in the now of God’s eternal being and existence:
“I Am that I am” (Exodus 3:14).
“In Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28).
Perhaps the most practical response to this fascinating truth involves the Scriptural promise and command regarding our perception of things to come.
“Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth” (Psalm 27:1).
“Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” (Matthew 6:25-26).
Certainly we make our plans for the future, as Scripture mandates (Proverbs 24:27). Preparation for things to come serves as a vital component of life in this present world. However, we do so always in humble acknowledgement our uncertainly regarding tomorrow, and in the faith of trusting the One completely certain of all it will bring. Again, tomorrow is always merely conceptual, however we may view it. Today, and even more pointedly, this moment, constitutes the reality in which we live, and in which we do well to direct our primary focus. This leads to two primary questions of the moment…
Am I loving God by trusting Him? And am I loving Him by submission to His glory, will, and eternal purpose in the Lord Jesus Christ?
We also make the questions prayerfully personal, directing the most vital inquiry of our life to the only One who can answer…
“Am I loving You, Father, by trusting You, and by being submitted to Your glory, will, and eternal purpose in the Lord Jesus?”
We will not ask the question in every moment, and perhaps not in every day. We must nevertheless walk in the light of such faith and submission. God permeates and imbues the present with His presence. We can remember Him from our yesterdays, and expect Him in our tomorrows. But we know Him in our todays. This moment offers such opportunity as the Spirit of God moves upon and with us to turn our hearts toward the Heart we will ever find awaiting our acknowledgement of His presence, in the present…
