Orange Moon Wednesday, February 5, 2025 "We"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe

"We"

My wife Frances recently commented during a discussion about God's indwelling presence in born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, "We can't forget that we are a "we" in here!"

"Ye are the temple of God… the Spirit of God dwelleth in you" (I Corinthians 3:16).

Of all the "unsearchable riches of Christ" we received when we trusted the Savior, the greatest of all was the gift of Himself.  We become a "we" with the living God Himself in the new birth, never to be alone again in the very center of our life and being.  Our present experience of this greatest of salvation's marvels is limited to a vast degree as we "walk by faith, not by sight" (II Corinthians 5:7).  We do not consciously think about the "we" during most of our lives, and even when we do, the truth so overwhelms our understanding and sensibilities that we realize how little of God's internal presence we actually experience.  Indeed, of all the glories about which we know nothing yet as we ought to know, "Christ in you, the hope of glory" lies before us a gift - the gift - we have barely begun to unwrap (I Corinthians 8:2; Colossians 1:27).

Nevertheless, the "we" can and must have great impact on our hearts and lives.  Many opportunities to remember and affirm God's abiding presence present themselves in the blessings, challenges, and everyday moments of life.

"My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:2).

"I am with you always" (Matthew 28:20).

Christ comes with God's provision.  He draws especially near in our troubles.  The mundane moments of life actually teem with the vibrant presence of the living God.  "We"  graces our hearts at all times, in all places, and regarding every contingency.  Frances said it well, with both promise and warning: "We can't forget we are a "we" in here!"  Moreover, when we remember that the cost of God's eternally abiding presence within our hearts required His abandoning the heart of His beloved Son on the cross of Calvary - "My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?" - the matter becomes one of solemn and reverent devotion (Matthew 27:46).  Too much was sacrificed to birth the "We" of our hearts to not seek every opportunity to gratefully remember and further open the gift whose "hope of glory" even eternity will not fully reveal.

A final thought: God does not forget that we are a "we."  In those times we must be reminded, His abiding remembrance of how near He has drawn to us through the Lord Jesus and the indwelling Holy Spirit will humble us, and then amaze us with wonder that He rejoices in dwelling within us far more than we rejoice in so wondrous a glory.  The Psalmist said it long before the advent of the indwelling Holy Spirit.  May we say it also within our hearts and upon our lips as we do not forget that we are a "we"…

"The Lord taketh pleasure in His people."

(Psalm 149:4)

Weekly Memory Verse

And I have declared unto them Thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith Thou hast loved Me may be in them, and I in them.
