Orange Moon Friday, February 7, 2025 “God Is God and We Ain’t!”

"God Is God and We Ain't!"

"What caused our existence?" is the most fundamental question of our being and life, easily answered in Scripture.

"It is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves" (Psalm 100:3).

"What caused God's existence?", conversely, is not an important question.  In fact, it is no question at all.

"From everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God" (Psalm 90:2).

"Why?" asks to know the cause of an effect.  As an eternal "from everlasting" being, our Lord exists as uncaused.  He is not an effect.  Nothing brought Him into being.  He does not exist because.  His being cannot be explained in terms of any human philosophy or even theology.  As God identified Himself by a non-descriptive name unusual in Scripture parlance - "I am that I am" - the Lord's fundamental existence bears no reason and offers no explanation (Genesis 3:14).  He simply is.

This completely sets the Creator apart from His creation in terms of being and existence.  "God is God and we ain't!" says a good friend.  No more important truth exists for a race of beings wondrously created in His image, but who do not and cannot share His eternal substance.  This is especially true because the sinful delusion of "ye shall be as gods" entered the human race through Adam (Genesis 3:5).  We want to know, a good and vital desire when properly motivated in relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.  "With all thy getting, get understanding" (Proverbs 4:7).  Regarding the existence of God, however, we cannot know the answer because there is no answer.  This humbles Adam's race, driving a dagger into the heart of our native deception of seeking to know as gods.   Again, our Lord does not exist because.  Everything else does, and we can humbly seek to know as much as we can of all other things.  However, the most elemental truth of all things - "I AM" - forever leads us to our faces not to ask or to understand, but to worship.

"God is God and we ain't."  A seminary syllabus that offered this theme as the required first course for all incoming students would be more than appropriate.  Our Heavenly Father has drawn born again believers gloriously near to Himself through the redeeming grace of the Lord Jesus and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (John 17:23).  Never, however, is the line between the Creator and the creature crossed.  This we must know, and the fact of God's being beyond reason or explanation goes far in keeping us in our place, and reserving in our hearts and minds His place.

"Our Lord Jesus Christ, which in His times He shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords, who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see, to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen."

(I Timothy 6:14-16)

Weekly Memory Verse

And I have declared unto them Thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith Thou hast loved Me may be in them, and I in them.
