The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe
"Call Unto Me"
Wisdom rejoices in what is known, while acknowledging how little is known.
"If any man think that he knoweth anything, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know" (I Corinthians 8:2).
Consider the one who wrote these words, the Apostle Paul. He knew God and His truth by an "abundance of revelations" so vast that he required a thorn in the flesh to be protected from pride. Moreover, Paul was"caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter" (II Corinthians 12:4; 7). Paul nevertheless included himself in his "any man" pronouncement of "nothing yet as he ought to know." Indeed, no one has ever lived who better knew how little of God and His truth he had actually discovered and assimilated. We can be sure that even as the Apostle rejoiced in the bright light that shone upon Him, the illumination of "nothing yet as he ought to know" glimmered no less in his heart and mind (Philippians 3:13).
While none of us ever apply ourselves as we well as we should, God's infinite being and truth actually serve as the primary reason we have only just begun our journey into Him.
"His greatness is unsearchable" (Psalm 145:3).
We "ought to know" more. For this, we do well to acknowledge and repent. However, greatness beyond full discovery means that we also acknowledge - and rejoice! We forever get to know more. The Infinite has no measure. The more one drinks of it - Him - the more it seems as if a vast river instantly rushes in to replace the portion we partake. This is our God, the true and living Lord who ever beckons us to come further, swim deeper, and fly higher into His glory that will be no less beyond full realization in eternity than it is in this day.
"Call unto Me and I will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not" (Jeremiah 33:3).
Unto the diligent like Paul, or to the believer well aware he has too often neglected the pursuit of God and His truth, our Heavenly Father's call of grace and truth in Christ sounds in this day. In this age of much distraction, our spiritual enemies offer many byways that lead us away and astray from the only One who can fulfill our hearts and direct our steps in reality. We begin our response with gratitude for what we do know, which also leads to repentance for what we could have known. Upon this basis of thanksgiving and contrition, we then heed the call to call. Indeed, the journey upon which we embarked when we trusted the Lord Jesus means that we can ever know some, and we can ever know more. But we can never know all of One whose goodness and greatness promises no end to the quest for which our hearts exist…
"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever. Amen."
(II Corinthians 3:18)
Weekly Memory Verse
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
(Psalm 139:23-24)
