The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe
"Taste and See"
"O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him" (Psalm 34:8).
We "taste" our Lord and realize His goodness by trusting Him. "The just shall live by faith" declare both Old Testament and New Testament (Habbakuk 2:4; Romans 1:17). Every morsel of food we have ever consumed, or will consume, bears witness to the very essence of life as God made us to experience. We may or may not get the message. The Spirit of God nevertheless communicates our Heavenly Father's promise to provide and our need to receive whenever our partaking of the bread of this present world speaks of the Bread of life.
"As the living Father hath sent Me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth Me, even he shall live by Me" (John 6:57).
Every time we believe the promises of God and His Word, we "taste and see that the Lord is good." This includes not only tangible and realized works of God that result from His grace received by faith. The very act of believing our Lord and His promises also feeds the depths of our spiritual being. We were made for this, and our eternal existence - including this day and moment - involves the faithfulness of God and our faith in His perfect trustworthiness. We "live by faith," that is, the life of Christ moves within us to reveal God's dynamic and involved presence in our hearts and lives. Most of such vibrant activity works in ways we cannot perceive as an infinite Lord accomplishes His purposes in us regarding both time and eternity. "We walk by faith, not by sight" (II Corinthians 5:7). We partake of the Lord Jesus and His goodness nevertheless every time we believe the promises of Scripture that declare, "My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).
Many opportunities await us in this day to taste, partake, and thereby see the goodness of God. What promises of His Word will set the table for us whereupon the Bread of life will be consumed as we believe? All will feed us as we trust our Father, some clearly known by our senses and understanding, and others providing the sustenance of the Spirit in the very depths of our being. We exist for such grace known by faith as our Lord's goodness confirms that blessed indeed is the one who trusts in Him.
"And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst."
(John 6:35)
Weekly Memory Verse
We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen, for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
(II Corinthians 4:18)
