"The Prayers of a Lifetime (and Eternity)"

As we pray in time and space. God answers according to "the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Ephesians 3:11).

I considered this yesterday while praying for a dear brother and friend whose wife went to be with the Lord this past year.  The thought came to mind, "I wonder how many prayers Maxine prayed for Fred during her earthly journey and lifetime with him?"

"Thousands and thousands" came another thought, followed by this: "And the Lord is doubtless still answering those prayers offered for Fred by his beloved in countless ways."

He is, as requests offered in time result in glories of Christ eternally everlasting.  Indeed, born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ "have eternal life," defined as "to know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent" (I John 5:13; 17:3).  Thus, we live far more in the light and life of forever than we presently realize, including prayers prayed in the moment that result in answers bearing eternal effect, significance, and God's ongoing work to answer.  We may ask for "daily bread" (Matthew 6:11).   Our "everlasting Father" by definition responds and acts in the mode and measure of grace that bears eternally ongoing impact.  "I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever" (Isaiah 9:6; Ecclesiastes 3:14).

Let us learn from Maxine's example of seeking God's grace for her dear husband, and from the faithfulness of God's present and ongoing answers for His dear son.  We pray in time.  Our Heavenly Father answers in eternity.  The smallest pebble of request tossed into the vast river of His grace results in ripples of glory that will never cease to flow from His answers.  Yes, "whatsoever God doeth" in response to "whatsoever ye shall ask" bears unending consequence for the glory of the Lord Jesus, the blessedness of others for whom we pray, and the joy of our hearts as we…

Weekly Memory Verse

We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen, for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
