"With Him"

"He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?" (Romans 8:32).

The Apostle Paul's affirmation of the Lord Jesus Christ as the "with Him" of every provision by God greatly enhances our appreciation and gratitude.

What does it mean that the Lord Jesus comes with "all things" supplied by our Heavenly Father?  First, in some wondrous way beyond our understanding, our Lord Himself graces every supply.  "My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19; emphasis added).  The Gift comes with the "every good and perfect gift" provided by our Father.  How this occurs we do not know, nor do we waste time seeking to fully understand.  That it occurs we know for certain, based on the clear affirmation of Scripture that the next breath we breathe blesses us with a Presence unseen and unfelt, but which nevertheless serves as the very heart of all God's provision.

A truth we can understand regarding our Father's freely giving us all things "with Christ" involves our Savior's redeeming work on our behalf.  That next breath mentioned comes to us by the price of blood and untold sorrow of heart.  Had the Lord Jesus not been "the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world" and the Lamb slain in space in time, God would long ago have necessarily judged humanity according to His righteous integrity.  Adam and Eve would have been immediately condemned after they sinned, and you and I would never have existed.   Because of "the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord," however, our Father can extend the grace of "life and breath and all things" to every person in time, and salvation forevermore to all who believe (Acts 17:25; John 3:15).  "With Him" therefore means not only the wonder of Christ's presence as the Gift of all gifts, but also His necessary work to make possible God's provision for both time and eternity.   Yes, "all things" come to us based completely on who our Lord is for us, and what He has done for us.  With Him...

A suggestion.  The next time we bow our hearts and heads to give thanks for a meal, let us realize that it comes to us "with Him."  In some unknown manner, Christ comes with the provision because of who He is, and in a known way, the provision comes because of what He has done.  Little wonder the Father wills our Savior to "in all things… have the preeminence," and little wonder the Apostle John reports…

"I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands,  saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb forever and ever."

(Revelation 5:11-13)

Weekly Memory Verse

He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He.
