Orange Moon "The Good Fight" Part 2

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

   "The Good Fight

Part 2

Whether through heritage, upbringing, or life experiences, some people are more prone to temptations of fear and insecurity than others.  This presents a great challenge to those who know the Lord Jesus Christ and seek to walk in His assurance and peace.

"But whoso hearkeneth unto Me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil" (Proverbs 1:33).

Interestingly, those prone to insecurity actually possess great opportunity in their walk with the Lord.  Their liability can be transformed into liberty as they realize they do not have to be controlled by fleshly impulses and inclinations.  "Walk in the Spirit and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh" (Galatians 5:16).  Feelings and thoughts of fear and insecurity beckon us to seize the opportunity they afford to trust our Heavenly Father.  "What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee" (Psalm 56:3).  Like the nations who challenged Israel in the Promised Land, God allows our enemies to tempt us with fear so we may "fight the good fight of faith" by believing God and His promises (I Timothy 6:12).

Of course, when we trust God in our hearts, we may still continue to feel fleshly sensations and emotions that conflict with our confidence.  This supplies even more opportunity to affirm to our Lord that we trust Him!  It is a fight, a good fight, that awaits us in a fearful world that beckons us to believe its lies rather than God and His promises.  Indeed, our present lives are not about the eradication of challenges, but rather our overcoming of them through Christ.  It all comes down not to what we feel, or what thoughts of fear may flit through our brains.  No, it comes down to who we believe.  God, or anybody or anything else?  "The just shall live by faith" (Romans 1:17).

We must ever seek to grow in our knowledge of God's faithful heart and His perfectly trustworthy Word.  He has never disappointed anyone who has trusted Him, and it is no accident that Scripture refers to itself as "the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God" (Ephesians 6:17).  We are going to have to wield the holy Blade often if we are to walk in the realized peace of God.  "The good fight" awaits every believer, regardless of our native tendencies concerning fear and insecurity.  The only question is, will we gird on our sword, raise our shield, and go forth in the triumph of the risen Lord Jesus?  To the degree we know Him and understand His truth will be the degree to which we engage and thus bring honor to the One who leads and enables us in His victory.

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

(Ephesians 6:10-13)
