Orange Moon "The Next Step"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

"The Next Step"

Few more prevalent promises grace the pages of Scripture than the assurance of our Heavenly Father's leadership and guidance.

"Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy steps" (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Sometimes, however, even as we trust and submit to the Lord, we don't know what the next step should be concerning some matters.  In most cases, this means we should not proceed until the light of God shines to lead us (of course, some challenging decisions require in the moment choices to move forward.  This essay does not address those, which we will consider in another message).

"Wait on the Lord.  Be of good courage and He shall strengthen thine heart.  Wait, I say, on the Lord" (Psalm 27:14).

Waiting to take the next step requires much confidence and much courage.    We can easily panic in such times, pressing on toward a wayward path whereupon lies unnecessary trouble and turmoil.  This is especially true if one possibility offers initial pleasure, and another challenge.  Waiting on our Heavenly Father for His direction may usher us along trails that ultimately lead to benefit, but that initially portend of thorns and thickets.  Conversely, wayward paths may seem clear, unhindered, and easily traveled, but in the end lead to places we wish we had not gone.  Patiently waiting on the Lord for His illumination upon the next step therefore comprises a vital aspect of walking with God we must learn, and having learned, learn more and more.  "The path of the just is as the shining light, which shineth more and more unto the perfect day" (Proverbs 4:18).

Unless we must take an immediate step, not knowing the best course of action almost always means we should wait on our Lord for better information, a greater sense of confidence, and the determination to do what we ultimately believe to be the will of God.  He will direct us in His time, and we will grow in the assurance of a life directed by the heart and hand of Another...

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye."

(Psalm 32:8)

Weekly Memory Verse

And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.
