"Need To Know"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

"Need To Know"
A friend of mine who served in the military once told me that he and his fellow soldiers fulfilled their duties on a "need to know" basis.  He added, "And we obviously didn't need to know very much!"

"His understanding is infinite… If any man knoweth anything, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know" (Psalm 147:5; I Corinthians 8:2).

Born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ do need to know much.  "Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (II Peter 3:18).  We nevertheless perceive and understand very little in terms relative to God's infinite understanding.  Thus, we use the minds our Heavenly Father gave us with much dedication and determination to think well.  We also heed Solomon's command to "lean not to unto thine own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5).  This places us in the proper position and application of humility - "I know not!" - and desire to know more - "Teach me" (I Kings 3:7; Psalm 25:4).

By definition, an infinite God and His truth can never be fully known by finite beings.  This thought should thrill us with wonder and the expectation of new glories to be discovered in this life and forevermore.  Indeed, by the time we lay our heads down to rest at the end of this day, we can grasp more of what our Lord determines we need to know.  He is more than willing to show us by His Word, His Spirit, His church, His creation, and His personal working in our hearts and minds.  "Call unto Me and I will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not" (Jeremiah 33:3).  We can better know God and His truth, which leads to increased understanding of everything in our lives.  "In Thy light shall we see light" (Psalm 36:9).  The Lord's school is open today; classes will be held.  Necessary knowledge is offered to those who attend.  May we be found at our desk with an attentive heart, expectant mind, and the realization that while we can never know all regarding the Lord Jesus, we can always know more of His infinite goodness and greatness.  Yes, we live on a need to know basis.  And we most assuredly need to know.
