Orange Moon Wednesday, January 16, 2026 "Earnestly, Humbly"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

"Earnestly, Humbly"

"I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace" (Ephesians 4:1-3).

Born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ must make a concerted effort to humbly walk with one another in love and truth.  The unity to which God calls us does not simply happen in a realm of devils, flesh, and worldly influences that ever seek to divide us.  Of course, this does not mean we compromise our convictions, nor that we ignore our differences.  "Ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" (Jude 1:3).  We seek "to be of one mind" by humbly and forthrightly considering issues of dispute (II Corinthians 13:11).  We may or may not resolve our differences,  However, even as we disagree regarding principles and practices, we must determine to not disrespect each other's person.  "Honor all men" commanded the Apostle Peter, who proceeded to amplify the mandate regarding fellow believers in the Lord Jesus:  "Love the brotherhood" (I Peter 2:17).

If we have pondered a matter well enough to have an opinion, we do well to remember that a genuine understanding of God's truth always humbles as it establishes convictions.  We may be correct about a matter of dispute.  If, however, we make our stand with arrogance rather than humility, we are wrong even as we are right.  Just as importantly, none of us know anything yet as we ought to know (I Corinthians 8:2).  None of us understand God and His truth perfectly.  Thus, we may be on the right side of truth in a matter, while being on the Lord's wrong side.  He needs no egotists to defend Himself and His truth.  He rather works in those who seek Him earnestly, but humbly, and who communicate their findings with forthright conviction accompanied by loving humility and respect for others.

"Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.  No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us."

(I John 4:11-12)

Weekly Memory Verse

My brethren, count it all joy when fall into diverse temptations, knowing that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

(James 1:2-3)
