"Goodness and Justice"
We must always view character as the guiding factor of all God's capabilities. Perfect goodness and integrity guide His every thought, attitude, word, and deed.
"Thou art good and doest good. Teach me Thy statutes" (Psalm 119:68).
Note the Psalmist's request - "Teach me" - based on his affirmation of the sequence of goodness in God - "are" and "do." We can only rightly learn of our Lord as we establish in our hearts and minds the conviction of a God pristinely and forever perfect in His character. Indeed, if we open the Bible to understand our Lord's doings without complete confidence in who He is, we will never fully or rightly understand the truth we seek. "As for God, His way is perfect" (II Samuel 22:31).
Consider this goodness in terms of justice. Is God always fair? He is.
"Justice and judgment are the habitation of Thy throne" (Psalm 89:14).
"The wisdom that is from above is… without partiality" (James 3:17).
The God who created all things in righteousness cannot be anything other than fair to every creature who has ever existed, or ever will exist. Not one moment of injustice from the Lord will ever be recorded in the annals of time or eternity. Perfect wisdom and perfect action flow from perfect integrity in One who cannot even be tempted to be unfair (James 1:13). No truth about Him more characterizes His primary essence and nature of love, nor does any revelation more elicit faith in those who seek to relate to Him. "Behold, thy King cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation" (Zechariah 9:9).
When God creates, the goodness of justice and impartiality guides His origination of all things. When He speaks, the same goodness directs His Words. When He bestows grace and mercy, He acts completely fairly. When He condemns and administers wrath, the same. His cannot do otherwise. His nature will not allow for injustice, any more than it might allow Him to speak untruthfully. ""The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works… It was impossible for God to lie… " (Hebrews 6:18; Psalm 145:17).
If ever we wonder about fairness in God regarding the revelation of Scripture, or His personal working in our lives, the lives of others, and the world, let us recognize that devilish deception confronts our confidence. Satan and his minions ever seek to discredit the justice of divine goodness that governs the righteous and impartial way of God in all things. The lie began in Eden and continues unto this day. Establishing the doctrinal understanding and personal conviction of God's goodness as the source of the good He does, including His acting in perfect justice, will lead us to join the Psalmist in the joyful affirmation, "Thou art good and doest good."
"He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment, a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He."
(Deuteronomy 32:4)
Weekly Memory Verse
The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works.
(Psalm 145:17).
