Orange Moon Thursday, December 26, 2024 "Not Knowing"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe

"Not Knowing"

Not knowing is every bit as important as knowing.

"Ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil" (Genesis 3:5).

In Eden, Satan infected the human race with his lie of pride that we can understand things as self aware gods rather than as dependent human beings.   The history of humanity bears witness to his deception, and our response to the most false of notions.  To know anything in terms of reality first requires God's creation of our hearts and minds, and then His ongoing revelation of truth.

"Trust in the Lord with all thy heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Of course, many people who do not "acknowledge Him" use their brains to understand many things.  Even the most unbelieving of minds can learn and utilize facts in order to function in life.  We currently live in a generation of technology fostered by people of both faith and unbelief.  The cumulative wealth of knowledge garnered by the human race throughout history has resulted in a life unimagined by people of previous times.  "Knowledge shall be increased" prophesies Scripture of these days in which humanity finds itself both blessed by understanding, and ushered to the brink of destruction by that which we know (Daniel 12:4).

"Knowledge puffeth up… with all thy getting, get understanding" (I Corinthians 8:1; Proverbs 4:7).  To know truth and facts apart from relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ results in pride and self delusion.  To know the same by walking with our Heavenly Father results in much understanding, while accompanied by the realization that "if any man think that he knoweth anything, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know" (I Corinthians 8:2).  We must know as much as we can through the gifts of light God has given.  But we must always keep in heart and mind that regardless of how much illumination shines upon us, we have seen only a small measure of the infinite and eternal glory that awaits us.  True knowledge both thrills and humbles.

The path of God's righteousness in Christ offers ongoing discovery of truth and reality.  It also offers altars all along the way whereupon we kneel to give thanks for light given, while humbly acknowledging that our journey into the Eternal and Infinite has always just begun.  We can know enough to personally walk with our Lord in truth, and to effectively communicate Him to others.  However, one of the greatest truths we know and communicate is that we can know some, we can know more, but we can never begin to know all.  Indeed, "nothing yet as we ought to know…"

"So foolish was I, and ignorant, I was as a beast before Thee. Nevertheless I am continually with Thee: Thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with Thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory."

(Psalm 73:22-24)

Weekly Memory Verse

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.

(II Corinthians 9:8)
