Orange Moon Monday, December 16, 2024 “A Book Like No Other”

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe

"A Book Like No Other"

The Bible must be viewed in terms of both the propositional and the personal.  Theology, anthropology, doctrine, truth, history, and the facts of God and His working present His light to our minds.   Thereby, the Author of Scripture, the Holy Spirit, purposes to lead our hearts into living relationship and fellowship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.  Only of the Bible can it be said that the Author comes with His Book.  He comes for the purpose of revealing and glorifying  Christ as He seeks to lead the humble and trusting mind and heart devoted to the Savior (John 16:14; 15:26).

"The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:23-24).

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things" (John 14:26).

We must seek to the know the facts of God as well as possible, recognizing that the Bible serves as the sole repository of truth for the believer's doctrine and practice.  "Let Thy mercies come also unto me, o Lord, even Thy salvation, according to Thy Word" (Psalm 119:41).  We also recognize our Lord's intention to personally lead and enlighten us whereby we know Him in terms far more than merely principle and fact.  "The Spirit Himself beareth witness with our spirit that we are the children of God" (Romans 8:16).  This constitutes the Bible as a book like no other, a gift to be revered for its potential to change our minds by changing our hearts, and to change our hearts by changing our minds.  "I rejoice at Thy Word, as one that findeth great spoil…let my cry come near before Thee, o Lord, give me understanding according to Thy Word" (Psalm 119:162; 169).

The Bible came by its Author.  It comes with its Author.  Thus, it serves as both a Book and a Voice.  Scripture teaches the mind by facts to be found nowhere else.  Its transforms the heart by light to be found nowhere else.   A Book like no other presents to us the one living and true God, like no other.  We would expect nothing less and nothing else of a gift given from His heart and mind, to our hearts and minds.

"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit."

(II Peter 1:20-21)

"I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them."

(Hebrews 10:16)
