"The Eternal Purpose"

From everlasting to everlasting, God works all things according to "the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Ephesians 3:11).

Everything God administers by His direct determination flows with the current of exalting and revealing the Lord Jesus, as does everything He allows conscious beings - angels and humans - to do by choices that all occur within the wondrous realm of His providence.  No one has yet begun to completely understand how it all works, nor will any ever plumb the depths of such mystery to find the answer.  We do know with certainty, however, that it all works.  Most importantly, we know that yet another mystery - "God was manifest in the flesh" - serves as the heart and theme of every administration and allowance of the Father devoted to the glory of His beloved Son (I Timothy 3:16).  Indeed, when we can fully understand how Christ is both God and man, acknowledged by the Apostle Paul as far beyond his comprehension, we can then move on to discerning how divine sovereignty and creaturely freedom correlate to fulfill the glorious purpose…

"God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow" (Philippians 2:9-10).

Peace ensues in every heart that acknowledges the Christ-centered eternal purpose of God that must become our Christ-centered purpose.  Why does our Father do everything He does?  Answering this question in light of the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit's incessant working in all things to magnify the Lord Jesus establishes our hearts in truth and reality.  We will often scratch our heads in the moment of events, circumstances, situations, and conditions.  In the light of eternity, however, an answer always abides - "the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord."  Herein we rest our spirits when our minds are challenged, our emotions are stirred, and our bodies are pained.  Christ only.  Christ always.  Christ forever.  The current of our Father's purpose ever flows according to this sparkling stream of a sovereignty forever mysterious in operation, but eternally clear as crystal in objective.

"This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:17).

Beloved Son.  Beloved Savior.  As the devotion of the Father's heart becomes the devotion of our hearts, the light of God shines upon us, within us, and from us.  Yes, our Father has always had a purpose that abides until this moment, and from which He will never deviate.  The glory and revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ - how all things work to fulfill such purpose, we do not know.  That all things fulfill the purpose we know as the determination of God's heart and the peace of our hearts from everlasting, to everlasting.

"The Father loveth the Son."

(John 3:35)

Weekly Memory Verse

He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He.
