Orange Moon Friday, August 25, 2023 "A Willed Trust"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

"A Willed Trust"

"if we wait to trust God until we feel faith, we will often wait a long, long time.  "I will trust in Thee," conversely, ever lies at hand and in heart for the believer who seeks to honor the Lord by walking in His peace."

Overcoming temptations to fear and uncertainty involves a "willed trust."

"What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee" (Psalm 56:3).

Many Psalms contain expressions of doubt regarding God's faithfulness.  The Holy Spirit allowed David and others to pen what they felt about the challenges of life.  "Why standest thou afar off, O Lord?  Why hidest Thou Thyself in times of trouble?" (Psalm 10:1).  In most cases, however, the Psalmist progressed to a choice of faith within the heart, affirmed amid the challenges of trepidation.  "The poor committeth himself unto Thee; Thou art the helper of the fatherless… the Lord is King forever and ever" (Psalm 10:14; 16).

"I feel" and "I will" often ride on parallel tracks within our consciousness in our present lives  "The flesh lusteth against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh" (Galatians 5:17).  Thoughts, emotions, and appearances often course through our sensibilities that conflict with the faith we have chosen to exercise.  This makes necessary our joining the Psalmist in the "What time" opportunities for faith that present themselves along the often rocky and treacherous paths of the fallen world in which we live.  "I will trust in Thee" means that we respond to the Spirit of God's declaration, administered through the Word of God, that our Heavenly Father's trustworthiness "reacheth unto the clouds," and that He "cannot lie" (Psalm 36:5; Titus 1:2).  We may or may not feel corresponding emotions.  This does not matter in the light of a willed trust.  In fact, our greatest expressions of genuine faith often ride upon the rails with feelings of fear.

"The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Matthew 26:41).
"When I would do good, evil is present with me" (Romans 7:21).

True confidence in God does not presently involve the absence of trepidations, but rather the overcoming of them.  "This is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith" (I John 5:4).  Few truths and realities more prepare us to "walk by faith, not by sight" (II Corinthians 5:7).  Indeed, if we wait to trust God until we feel faith, we will often wait a long, long time.  "I will trust in Thee," conversely, ever lies at hand and in heart for the believer who seeks to honor the Lord by walking in His peace.  Indeed, our "willed trust" originates in His "willed promise" known and embraced, regardless of what we may feel or how things may appear…

"He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him."
(Psalm 91:15)
"Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment."
(John 7:24)

Weekly Memory Verse
Who is a God like unto Thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? he retaineth not His anger forever, because He delighteth in mercy.
(Micah 7:18)
