Orange Moon Saturday, June 4, 2022 "The Personal and the Principle"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

"The Personal and the Principle

They stood before the Lord Jesus Christ.  They could see, hear, and touch Him.  He personally communicated with them.  However, despite being members of His earthly people Israel, they rejected Him.  Why?  The Lord Jesus Christ Himself provides the answer.

"If ye believe not his (Moses) writings, how shall ye believe My words?" (John 5:47).

The Christian life involves living relationship with the most personal of all beings, the God who created and redeemed us to know Him (in our present life, of course, "by faith, not by sight" - II Corinthians 5:7).  Such fellowship, however, rests upon the bedrock of objective truth, that is, the Scriptures.  We cannot walk in true communion with our Heavenly Father apart from the writings of the Bible.  No less than the Lord Jesus declares such truth to be true.  "The Scriptures… testify of Me; The true worshippers shall worship in spirit and in truth" (John 4:23; 5:39; emphasis added).   Moreover…

"Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (Romans 10:17)

Trust in the heart proceeds from both the presence of the Holy Spirit and the truth of the Word.  As the Spirit works in believers to apply God's light in living terms, we do well to remember our Lord's caution to the Jews of old.  We must believe the writings in order to believe the words.  The personal requires the principle.  To know God's personal working, we must  believe God's principled Word.  Our Heavenly Father loves us enough to have given a faith based not on nebulous hunch, notion, or emotion, but rather on the bedrock of "It is written" and "Thy Word is truth" (Matthew 4:4; John 17:17).  Let us respond by seeking to walk with Him in close fellowship of the heart empowered by His personal presence, and in devotion to the Scriptures that affirm and confirm we are walking with the living and true God.

"Let Thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even Thy salvation, according to Thy Word."
(Psalm 119:41)

Weekly Memory Verse
Not unto us, o Lord, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory for Thy mercy and Thy truth's sake.
(Psalm 115:1)
