“Always To Pray”
Whatever this moment brings to us, God can be trusted. He must be trusted - “the just shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17). This means we must pray in order to access His working on our behalf regarding whatever the moment involves.
“Men ought always to pray” (Luke 18:1).
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
Life, as defined by our Lord, involves His grace promised and provided, resulting in our response of belief with the heart, chosen and confessed. “I will trust in Thee” declared the Psalmist of the faith whereby we avail ourselves of the Lord Jesus Christ and His presence and working on our behalf (Psalm 56:3). We personally relate to our Heavenly Father, prayerfully seeking His person, and thereby being enabled to live from His guidance and provision. “Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3).
God does so much for us without our asking. We do not have to make request for the beating of our heart and countless other bestowals of provision. However, many of His doings await our prayerful approach to the throne of grace. “Ye have not because ye ask not” (James 4:2). Our Heavenly Father made us for a real relationship and fellowship of Heart to heart. We need to pray every bit as much as we need whatever we request in prayer. Thereby, we commune with the One who “is our life” and the One who leads us to truly live, rather than merely exist (Colossians 3:4). “Let your requests be made known unto God” involves His great desire for personal fellowship with us no less than His great desire to provide for our needs (Philippians 4:6). “The prayer of the upright is His delight” (Proverbs 15:8).
“Lord, teach us to pray” asked the disciples in possibly the wisest request ever uttered by human lips (Luke 11:1). We do well to frequently echo the words whereby we avail ourselves of the very Life of our lives. A perfectly trustworthy God beckons us to the aptly titled “throne of grace.” We could approach no other, but through the Lord Jesus Christ we can approach this place of grace in confidence that God desires our fellowship far more than we desire His. He made us for Himself, to provide for “all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). This includes our deepest need, namely, Himself. By faith, we commune with the God who can and must be trusted with “all thy heart” (Proverbs 3:5). This is life, life as He defines. There is no other.
“To live is Christ” (Philippians 1:21)
“This is life eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.”
(John 17:3)
Weekly Memory Verse
