The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe
"Our Hearts, His Home"
"Home" means many things to many people. To the Psalmist, it primarily meant his Lord.
"Lord, Thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations" (Psalm 90:1).
God made the human race to serve as the spiritual habitation wherein He lives and acts to reveal and glorify His beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:22). The Holy Spirit indwells those who trust the Savior for redemption, making possible the progressive fulfillment of the very reason for our being. We are a Heavenly people presently living upon the earth, and enabled by the Spirit to serve as the very home of God. "Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love Me, he will keep My words: and My Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him" (John 14:23).
In terms of how we presently live, this means "that every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor" (I Thessalonians 4:4). Just as we seek to keep our earthly dwelling places sound, secure, and appealing, our Father works to conform us more and more to the image of the One who lives within us (Romans 8:28-29). Countenance, attitude, word, deed, and how we relate to God and people all serve to bear witness to the Occupant of our hearts. This provides a reason and significance for how we live in all things, at all times. "Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (I Corinthians 10:31). As the very home of God, every nook and cranny of our lives matters as all exist for "the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Ephesians 3:11).
Wherever we live, let us view our earthly domicile as a reminder of the Heavenly domicile we are as the temple of God. Care for our homes and the determination to make them more and more livable reflects our Father's care for His home. He works incessantly to make us into a vessel of honor and sanctification that reveals the Resident who dwells within. May we respond in wonder and gratitude that we exist for such a glorious purpose, of our hearts as His home.
"I have declared unto them Thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith Thou hast loved Me may be in them, and I in them."
(John 17:26)
Weekly Memory Verse
Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.
