"Expect God"
Frances and I seek to live by an axiom we coined many years ago, inspired by Scripture: "Expect God."
"My soul, wait thou only upon God, for my expectation is from Him" (Psalm 62:5).
In a life wherein the Lord Jesus Christ promises to be "with you always," we only live in reality as we anticipate His presence, working, and pointed involvement in all things (Matthew 28:20). In fact, the truth of the matter may more literally be considered in terms of His expecting us. That is, wherever we arrive in life, and whatever the venue or contingencies we encounter, our Heavenly Father has been waiting for us. Moreover, He has anticipated our arrival with perfect preparations to be and do whatever we require as the Life of our lives, and as the provision of grace for whatever the blessing, the challenge, and the everyday moment.
"The Lord will be the hope of His people" (Joel 3:16).
Of course, how our Father will be for us in things to come is His prerogative. We can be absolutely sure of His promised presence and provision, and this forms our expectation. The mode, means, and measure of this certain grace, however, flow according to His wisdom and "the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Ephesians 3:11). Our Heavenly Father may act in pleasant blessing, challenging difficulty, or mundane ways that seem meaningless. We require all in our present existence as God purposes that we know Him above all else. Such opportunity to discover His heart does not in any manner minimize the working of His hand. It does, however, call us to the proper expectation of our Lord, the One so able to fill our spirits with His peace and joy, regardless of how His wisdom and purpose direct His actions. We cannot always anticipate how His hand will move in our lives. However, we can always expect the presence of His heart, and we shall not be disappointed as we arrive on the scenes of our lives to find our Lord awaiting us.
Let us expect God. We may miss Him if we do not. Anticipation motivates, enables, and prepares us for awareness. Jacob would tell us this, as long ago the Lord met Him at Bethel, but the man of God missed Him, largely because He did not expect Him. "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I knew it not! (Genesis 28:16). May such not be said of us, but rather, "Surely the Lord is in this place. Just as I expected!"
I wait for you, My child, wherever you may go.
I'll be there when you arrive,
I'll be with you as you go.
We live our life together, you venture not alone.
Our hearts made one forever,
united in My Son.
I wait for you, My child, I'll be with you as you go.
I made you for such grace, to be My Spirit's home.
Oh, look into My face,
and with assurance know
that we'll always be together, you'll never be alone.
We'll be as one forever,
each other's love to know.
I wait for you, My child, I'll be with you as you go.
Forever beckons to us, as does this day, this hour.
My Spirit's peace imparts
the presence and the power
for you to journey with Me, in darkness or in light.
I am in your heart forever,
and in this day, this night.
I wait for you, My child, I'll be with you as you go.
"According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death."
(Philippians 1:20)
"The Lord thy God, He it is that shall go with thee."
(Deuteronomy 31:6)
