Orange Moon Monday, July 22, 2024 "Who Came?"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

(I recently spoke with our dear friend Larry Voas, the inspiration for the following, a repeat from 2013)

"Who Came?"

"What is this world coming to?"

Our dear friend Larry once asked his father, a pastor, the question many of us have likely expressed when confronted with what seems to be  a continually downward-trending spiritual and moral environment.   Larry's dad offered a sublimely wonderful and unforgettable answer.

"The question is not what is the world coming to, Larry," responded Pastor Voas.  "No, the question is 'Who came to this world?' "

     "Christ came" (Romans 9:5).

As long as the footprints of the Prince of peace mark the lanes and hills and lanes of Judea, and as long as His Spirit comes to the hearts of those who believe, the primary question regarding the world will always be "Who came?"  We must also apply this to our personal experience.  When confronted with the challenges of life, who came to our hearts when we believed?   Who answers other vital questions of our present existence?

Who brought us into existence, in full knowledge and confidence He could care for our well being in both time and eternity?  "It is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves… I am thy God.  I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness" (Psalm 100:3; Isaiah 41:10).

Who knew the circumstances, situations, and conditions that would come into our lives throughout our lives, and is thus prepared for every contingency?  "His understanding is infinite" (Psalm 147:5)

Who promises to provide all things we will ever truly need?  "My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).

Who made the the cross of Christ, in one sense the worst thing that ever happened, into the best thing, namely, the very basis of our salvation?  Who rose from the dead after He died on a cross?  Who sits at the right hand of God the Father as King of kings and Lord of lords?  Who works "all things together for good to them that love Him?" (Romans 8:28).

Who is with us always, and promises never to leave nor forsake us?  Who is wise enough, powerful enough, involved enough, and loving enough to fit all things into His good and loving purposes?  "I am with you always… God worketh all things after the counsel of His own will" (Matthew 28:20; Romans 8:28).

So long as the Lord Jesus serves as the answer to these vital questions, the conditions and circumstances of the world must not be our primary focus. What is this world coming to?  What are our lives coming to?   The greater question always, and already answered, is "Who came to this world?"  And, who came into our hearts and lives when we trusted Him?  Christ answers every question regarding both time and eternity.  Thank you, Pastor Voas for such a blessed reminder, thank you, Larry, and thank You, Lord!

"I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."                                                                                        (John 10:10)

Weekly Memory Verse

I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.                                                                                        (John 10:10)
