"The Prayer of the Upright"

Part 3 - His Voice, Our Voice

"The prayer of the upright is His delight."
(Proverbs 15:8)

"When we pray in humility, faith, and sincerity, something far more and far greater occurs that we perceive.  God hears one Son amid the hearts and voices of many sons and daughters."

Of all that God must lead and enable us to do in accordance with His glory and will, surely prayer must be at or near the top of the list.

"Lord, teach us to pray" (Luke 11:1).

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered" (Romans 8:26).

That created beings such as ourselves might commune with an infinite, eternal God such as the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ surely stills our hearts and voices upon first consideration.  While prayer is certainly not to be viewed as overly complicated, it must be known for the wonder it is.  To pray "according to His will" involves communication with One whose "understanding is infinite" (I John 5:14; Psalm 147:5).  Moreover, the Lord Jesus warned against the possibility of vanity in our praying, and also the false notion that God hears us based on many words rather than deep humility and the awareness that He "knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask Him" (Matthew 6:8).  Our first consideration of prayer can only bring us to our knees, causing us to realize how wisely the disciples long ago requested, "Lord, teach us to pray."

True prayer flows from the Spirit of the Lord Jesus dwelling in our spirits…

"God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying Abba Father" (Galatians 4:6).

When we pray accordingly, blended voices reach the throne of Heaven and enter the heart of God in a unified spiritual harmony unknown to ourselves, but clearly heard by our Father.  Indeed, when the Apostle Paul affirmed, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me," he surely included prayer as led and enabled by the greatest Pray-er of all (Philippians 4:13).  Thus, we pray as a Christ-originated and empowered expression of His presence within us, "crying Abba, Father."  Little wonder that God would find delight in the voice of His "beloved Son" sounding upon and within the voices of His "dear children" in Christ (Matthew 3:17; Ephesians 5:1).

When we pray in humility, faith, and sincerity, something far more and far greater occurs than we possibly perceive.  God hears One amid the hearts and voices of many.  Let us spend little time seeking to understand how such a wonder can be, or how we can somehow better realize the fact of the matter.  No, we simply believe the truth, and in such humble acknowledgement become more likely to pray through Christ.  The melody and harmony of such grace bestowed and grace received will bring delight to heart of God, and the realization deeply within our hearts that…
