Orange Moon "Our Confidence"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe...

"Our Confidence"

"O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea" (Psalm 65:5).

Only one exists in whom we can place complete confidence.  "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart" commanded Solomon, who knew that only God is worthy of "all" our  trust (Proverbs 3:6).  No one else possesses the perfect character and almighty capability that warrants our complete confidence.  Certainly, some may be consistently faithful and able, making possible good relationship, fellowship, and cooperation.  We give thanks for people who can be trusted, and we seek to be the same.  However, only the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ merits our confidence to an absolute degree, making this day in our lives a thing of peace and joy because when the sun arose as promised, it bore witness to the truth that in this day, there is someone - Someone - we can trust with all our hearts (Genesis 8:22).

Think of it.  Regarding every aspect of life, there is Someone to trust, Someone to trust completely.  We can have confidence that the blessings of life are gifts of grace from One who promises to supply "all your need."  We can be sure that we will never face the challenges of life alone, even as Scripture declares our Lord to be "a very present help in trouble."  We can know that knowledge, understanding, and wisdom are available as we seek Light from above.  And we can rest in the truth that this day bears eternal meaning regardless of how mundane and ordinary it may seem (Philippians 4:19; Psalm 46:1; Proverbs 4:18; Romans 8:28).  Indeed, no matter the circumstance, condition, or situation, born again believers in the Lord Jesus can live this day with the utmost confidence as we remember and decisively affirm the perfect trustworthiness of our God.

Of course, we can also know that our spiritual enemies - the devil, the world, and the flesh - will do everything possible to discourage our confidence in this day.  Thus, we must gird on our sword, as it were, and prepare ourselves to "fight the good fight of faith" (I Timothy 6:12).  Who will we believe today with all our hearts?  Whose word cannot be broken? (John 10:35).  As believers, we know.  But also as believers, we must be prepared to fight, based on who and what we know.  Again, this involves remembrance and affirmation of the God so worthy of our faith, and His Word so faithful and true.  There is Someone to trust today with all our hearts.  No greater peace can secure our hearts, and no greater joy can thrill our hearts than this blessed assurance of the One who warrants our complete confidence.

"God cannot lie… Thy word is truth… Thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds."

(Titus 1:2; John 17:17; Psalm 36:5)

Weekly Memory Verse

Sanctify them through Thy truth.  Thy word is truth."

(John 17:17)
