Orange Moon "His Delight" Part 3 - The Upright

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

   "His Delight"

Part 3 - The Upright

"The prayer of the upright is His delight" (Proverbs 15:8).

Who are "the upright" in Solomon's affirmation of God's delight in their prayers?

"He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings" (Psalm 40:2).

The upright are those rescued by God through His saving grace in the Lord Jesus Christ.  They did not save themselves from the "horrible pit" and "miry clay" of sin, but rather called out to the Savior who alone can make us stand upon a solid foundation, and then lead us to walk in  a manner that honors our God.

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God" (Romans 5:1-2).

"Man's goings are of the Lord" (Proverbs 20:24).

God delights in the fellowship of such ones who have received His free gift of salvation, and who "stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free" (Galatians 5:1).  "God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace unto the humble" (I Peter 5:5).  Indeed, even the failing saint approaching the throne of grace "to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need" pleases the heart of his Heavenly Father no less (and far more) than the prodigal son who looked up the road a way to find his father joyously running to greet his returning child (Hebrews 4:16; Luke 15:20).  Moreover, for faithful believers who know that every act of obedience originates and continues by the gracious presence of the indwelling Holy Spirit, and who gratefully pray in such blessed light, God doubtless delights in a joy beyond our capacity to understand.  "I will praise Thee forever because Thou hast done it" (Psalm 52:9).

God delights in the prayers of those who delight in His Son, and in His saving, keeping, and empowering grace.  His pleasure in Christ becomes His pleasure in us as we come to Him with the name of the Lord Jesus on our lips, the Spirit of the Lord Jesus in our hearts, and the uprightness that confesses only the Lord Jesus as our hope both now and forevermore.

"The way of the Lord is strength to the upright."

(Proverbs 10:29)
