Orange Moon Cafe Law(s) Part 7 - "Married To Another"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

Law(s)

Part 7 -   "Married To Another"

"The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death" (Romans 8:2).

In the sublime moment of our new birth through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, His Spirit inhabited us to forevermore serve as the Life of our lives.

"God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying Abba Father" (Galatians 4:6).

We died to the demands of outward moral codes, whether the perfect law of Moses, or the some other law we created for ourselves.

"Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to Another, even to Him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God" (Romans 7:4).

The old law was a master who commanded obedience from without (for the purpose of revealing the moral heart defect of sinners).  The new law, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, is a loving husband who first died for His bride, and then rose again to spiritually unite Himself to her forevermore.  He dwells within her heart, and promises to be and do everything she will ever need to enable her faithfulness as His spiritual bride.

"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it, that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, that He might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish" (Ephesians 5:25-27).

Outward moral laws work from outside in.   The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus works from inside out.  "It is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13).  Our calling involves believing such truth to be true, submitting ourselves to our Lord in the expectation of faith that He will do exactly that which He promises to do.  However, our spiritual enemies tempt us to ignore or disbelieve the truth.  "He did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief" (Matthew 13:58).  We can be "married to Another," but live as if we remain in bondage to our former relationship of being merely servants to a master.  Certainly the Lord Jesus is our master.  However, He rules from within, dynamically empowering our capacity to live according to the law that now governs our heart.  Our role is to believe and devote ourselves to God whereby we walk in the truth of being "risen with Him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised Him from the dead" (Colossians 2:12).

Our hope is always grace, the grace of our indwelling Lord.  Our access to such grace is truth.  We must choose to believe the Word of God that no matter what, the risen Christ dwells within us to empower the faithfulness of this moment and forevermore.  Appearances, feelings, and past experience often belie the truth of "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27).  What, therefore, will we believe?  Who will we believe?  The Scriptures and their Author?  Or anyone or anything else?  The choice is always ours, and the more we know the doctrinal truth of such grace, the more likely we are to walk in realized union with the Life of our lives, bearing "the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:11).

"Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
(John 8:32)
