"Only the Fool"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

(Friends: Frances and I hiked in the mountains of North Georgia last week.  As always, such ventures resulted in numerous ponderings regarding the Lord's glory and truth.  I plan on sharing some of those thoughts with you in this week's messages.  Thanks, Glen).

"Only the Fool"

"Only the fool misses God in the mountains."  The thought came to me as we looked out on yet another scene of wonder after a steep rocky ascent led us to a high summit.  It occurred to me that the view likely elicits deep emotion in every witness of such wonder and beauty.  However, many people descend from the tops of mountains without having worshipped their Maker.  The atheist and agnostic must attribute their emotional response to mere naturalistic physical and chemical processes in their brains, based on visions of earthly terrain just as much the result of unguided processes having carved pinnacles and valleys into the planet's crust.  In the view of the unbeliever, nobody made the mountains and their beauty.  Nor did anyone make the human capacity for wonder and appreciation.  One can only join the Psalmist in his conclusion:

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God" (Psalm 14:1).

Another thought came to mind, one I frequently consider regarding God's presence and involvement in all things: What if there was no one to praise?  What if there was no one to thank?  I shudder at the thought.  The Lord's art and engineering in His creation begs the heart to respond with grateful wonder.  "I will praise Thee, o Lord, with my whole heart.  I will show forth all Thy wondrous works" (Psalm 9:1).  To stifle such response with unbelief and denial of the Obvious?  The Psalmist was right, of course.  Because only the fool misses God in the mountains, or anywhere else we venture throughout a world that speaks, shouts, whispers, and sings of One more glorious than even eternity will fully unveil to the trusting, worshipping heart.  There is Someone to praise, Someone to thank.  Only the fool denies the most obvious Truth in our existence.

"Only the Fool"

Only the fool
can fail to see
God in the mountains, the sky
and the sea.

For the glory and splendor
shine so brightly and true.
Who misses such wonder?
Only the fool.

Only the fool
breathes God-given air,
but somehow concludes
 it came from nowhere.

For in Him we live, have our being
and move.
Who can deny this?
Only the fool.

Only the fool
fails to hear the Voice
that speaks to the heart
and sounds through the noise

in every moment,
bearing witness to Truth.
Who will not listen?
Only the fool.

Oh pity the fool
and pray for his heart
 to hear the Voice of
the Spirit not far,

and seeking to save him
from darkness so cruel.
Who listens not?
Only the fool.
