"Heart To Heart"
"Fellowship with God does not come easy in this present existence of walking by faith, not by sight. But how vital it is that we have such experience."
We cannot visibly see, audibly hear, or tangibly touch the living and true God in our present existence. "We walk by faith, not by sight" (II Corinthians 5:7). Does this make Him and His active and involved presence any less real and consequential?
Of course, the answer is no. That the Lord Jesus Christ reveals Himself in ways that require trusting hearts, illuminated minds, and determined expectations does not minimize His faithful presence and working. In fact, it actually emphasizes His devotion to us. Early in the history of the human race, things went dreadfully wrong regarding matters of the heart. Adam and Eve disbelieved the word of God, disobeyed Him, and entered into an existence of deception and delusion. "The god of this world hath blinded the minds of them that believe not" (II Corinthians 4:4). Thereafter, all of Adam's race are born with the strain of sin that deludes us into believing outward things to be most influential in our lives. The infection misleads in countless ways, the most devastating being our failure to recognize that living relationship with God constitutes the very Life of our lives. "He is thy life" (Deuteronomy 30:20). Humanity has a heart problem, or rather, a blindness regarding the very reason for which we exist. "The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God. God is not in all his thoughts" (Psalm 10:4).
To redeem us from such catastrophic failure, God gave the Lord Jesus Christ to live, die, rise again, and send the Holy Spirit to indwell the hearts of those who believe. This establishes living relationship and fellowship with God. "This is life eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent" (John 17:3). A life of Heart to heart devotion and communication ensues, with many tangible evidences of God's working in our lives. However, at the heart of all is the divine Heart of grace, and our hearts responding by faith. We need such experience in order to be saved from believing that something other than the living God can serve as the essence of our existence.
"Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life" (Proverbs 4:23). Those who trust the Lord Jesus must "fight the good fight of faith" to maintain and grow in our understanding that "to live is Christ" (I Timothy 6:12; Philippians 1:21). Fellowship with God does not come easy in this present existence of walking by faith, not by sight. But how vital it is that we have such experience. We discover that we exist for relationship and fellowship with the Maker we cannot presently see, but whom we can and will know as we walk with Him by His Spirit, in His Word, and with fellow believers. Yes, we need such experience because of the ancient deception, and even more, because of the present and eternal glory to be known as we realize the reality, the reality of Heart to heart relationship for which God made us…
You are the life, the Life of our lives,
the joy of our spirit.
