"Rails of Reality"
"Both rails of reality - the Savior and the Scriptures - provide the tracks of truth upon which we make our way with God. We will derail if we neglect or minimize either."
The supremacy of the Savior. The supremacy of the Scriptures. Born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ journey upon these twin rails as we seek to walk with God in faith and faithfulness.
"The is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the preeminence" (Colossians 1:18).
"Sanctify them through Thy truth, Thy word is truth" (John 17:17).
We know and understand the Scriptures through the Savior. "They are they which testify of Me" declared the Lord Jesus of the written words of God (John 5:39). The Holy Spirit inspired every letter, word, verse, chapter, and book of the Bible for the purpose of exalting and revealing Christ. Only as we devote ourselves to His emphasis will the Scriptures glimmer with the light of their intended purpose. We open the Spirit's book to discover the Spirit's determination to direct all focus and attention to the Lord Jesus, whether in the veiled revelation of the Old Testament, or the bright and clear light of the New. "He shall testify of Me" (John 15:26).
"It came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus Himself drew near, and went with them… And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself" (Luke 24:15; 27).
We also know and understand the Savior through the Scriptures. Our spiritual enemies ever seek to misdirect us to "another Jesus," that is, a Christ who does not align with the truth of "It is written of Me" (II Corinthians 11:4; Psalm 40:7). Without the Bible, we will worship a "Jesus" of human devising at best, or of devilish deception at worst. Neither will accord with Christ as He is, or as He purposes to work in our hearts and lives. Scripture commences, confirms, and corrects our perception of the Lord Jesus. Without the Biblical words of God, we will regress rather than progress in the accurate knowledge that leads to knowing the Savior as He actually is. "He that believeth on Me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water" (John 7:38; emphasis added).
Both rails of reality - the Savior and the Scriptures - provide the tracks of truth upon which we make our way with God. We will derail if we neglect or minimize either. Rather than "rivers of living water," streams of deception will flow within us and through us. We must know the Bible in the light of Christ. We must know Christ in the light of the Bible. The Psalmist stated the matter succinctly regarding devotion to the supremacy of both the living and the written Word….
"In Thy light shall we see light."
(Psalm 36:9)
"Thy words were found and I did eat them… I am the bread of life."
(Jeremiah 15:16; John 6:35)
Weekly Memory Verse
Know ye that the LORD He is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
(Psalm 100:3)
