"His Grace, His Wisdom"
"The river of God's freely given favor in the Lord Jesus Christ - His grace - flows within the banks of His wisdom and prudence."
"He hath made us accepted in the Beloved, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace, wherein He hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence" (Ephesians 1:6-8).
The river of God's freely given favor in the Lord Jesus Christ - His grace - flows within the banks of His "wisdom and prudence." Our Heavenly Father always administers His great desire to bless His children in accordance with the perfection of knowing what to do in the best possible way. This may sometimes conflict with our own knowledge and inclination of how we desire our Father to act on our behalf. Never, however, must it conflict with our confidence in God's perfect way, based on His loving devotion and infinite understanding (II Samuel 22:31; Romans 8:31: Psalm 147:5).
Consider how dire would be our plight if our Father's grace and wisdom did not perfectly correlate. What if He desired to bless us based on mere sentimentality? It would not be long before kindly intentions resulted in disaster as the desire to please resulted in momentary delight, but in long term disaster. Or, what if God did not bear a heart of grace along with His mind of wisdom and prudence? The contemplation is frightful and might well have led to the complete doom of a human race, all of whom have behaved as "sheep gone astray," and even worse, as rebels opposed to the glory and will of our Creator (Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23).
The Apostle Peter calls us to "grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (II Peter 3:18). This implies our corollary response to the favored and wise administration of our Father's working in our lives. He acts always in abounding grace and complete knowledge. The better we know both wonders of His way, the more we will trust Him in times when we comprehend His doings, and in times when we do not. Our Lord could not bear a more gracious heart to us, as evidenced by the cost He remitted to redeem us to Himself - "the precious blood of Christ" (I Peter 1:19). Nor could He more work in more absolute perfection of prudence as He blesses us with His gracious favor according to perfect wisdom. "Thou knowest all things" (John 16:30). Such a Heart and mind can be trusted with all our hearts and minds, as the familiar and beloved counsel of Solomon beckons…
"Trust in the Lord with all thy heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths."
(Proverbs 3:5-6).
