"His Delight"

Many motivators exist that encourage and challenge us to walk closely with our Lord in consistently prayerful devotion of Heart to heart.

"His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue" (II Peter 1:3).

Rather than attempting to list even a small sampling of the countless Scriptural inspirations to consciously commune with our Lord, let us consider the one is particularly personal in establishing and perpetuating a life of consistent communion with God.

"The prayer of the upright is His delight" (Proverbs 15:8).

The God who does not need us in any sense nevertheless finds "delight" in us.  "Let Me hear thy voice.  Sweet is thy voice" He would say to all of His trusting sons and daughters in Christ  (Song of Solomon 2:14).  Upon first consideration, our minds must reel and stagger and fall.  How can it be that an infinite, eternal God could find pleasure not only in merely created beings, but in those who have so often failed Him?  Indeed, it is one thing to rejoice in the freely imputed righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ whereby we become "accepted in the Beloved" (Ephesians 1:6).  It is another altogether to realize believers possess the capacity to literally delight the heart of God by our communion with Him.

Having been rightly bewildered by such grace, our Heavenly Father beckons us to arise, stand, and walk with Him in the wonder of His heart's devotion to us.  To please the heart of God by prayerful communion with Him?  To delight His heart?  For any born again believer mindful of our Lord's goodness, and of how personally good He has been to us, our hearts must surely run to the throne with the hope of so blessing God.  "When Thou saidst, Seek ye My face, my heart said unto Thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek" (Psalm 27:8).

As happily as our hearts rejoice in the prospect of one day entering the direct presence of God in Heaven, another Heart rejoices more.  Indeed, we will never find as much pleasure in God as He finds in us.  Certainly, this constitutes another staggering measure of truth.  Consider, however, that our Lord's emotions comprise an eternally infinite degree of feeling.  Certainly, our glorified sensibilities in Heaven will lead us in far greater pleasure in God than we presently know.  Never, however, will we feel as He feels.  Presently, our limited emotional capacities fall far too short, far too often in finding pleasure in our Lord.  His never do.  Thus, when we humbly approach Him in love, faith, sincerity, and devotion, "His delight" greets our prayers.  Among the many gifts of grace that motivate believers to prayerfully walk with God in His Word and His world, none will more personally impact our hearts regarding this most personal glory of our relationship with Him.

"The Lord taketh pleasure in His people."

(Psalm 149:4)

Weekly Memory Verse

Thou wilt show me the path of life.  In Thy presence is fullness of joy.  At Thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

(Psalm 16:11)
