Orange Moon Thursday, November 9, 2023 "Responding To Reality"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

"Responding To Reality"

"Am I walking in God's truth regarding the matters of my life?  Am I thinking, believing, praying, acting, and relating to God and others in accordance with His relationship to me, and mine to Him?"

Reality is reality, as created, sustained, and revealed by God.  Whether we know and live accordingly constitutes a different matter altogether.

"Teach me Thy way, O Lord; I will walk in Thy truth: unite my heart to fear Thy name" (Psalm 86:11).

To walk in God's truth requires that He teach us His way, and that He joins our heart with Himself and with reality, again, as existing and defined by Him.  This raises the ongoing issue for every born again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ: am I walking in God's truth regarding the matters of my life?  Am I thinking, believing, praying, acting, and relating to God and others in accordance with His relationship to me, and mine to Him?  "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him" (Colossians 2:6).

Only our Heavenly Father can answer this question for us.  We must prayerfully seek His evaluation, keep our hearts in His Word, and expect His confirmation and/or correction throughout the days of our lives.  "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye" (Psalm 32:8).  Of course, God perfectly fulfills His instruction, teaching, and guidance.  Our response, conversely, does not always proceed accordingly.  Every believer must at times be redirected in our walk.  We must be restored to reality by recognizing  our tendency as sheep us to wander from the Shepherd, whether willfully or unknowingly.  Thus, we must maintain ongoing fellowship with our Lord regarding the matter of truth and reality in terms of both "This is the way, walk ye in it" and "Cleanse Thou me from secret faults" (Isaiah 30:21; Psalm 19:12).

Presently, a perfectly faithful Shepherd must guide, supply, and protect a flock far from perfection in its response.  The first step of a walk in truth, therefore, involves our trusting Him to lead us in reality.  We will not proceed otherwise, any more than we could have been born again into reality by our own efforts and capabilities.  Again, "as ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him."  In this holy light of grace received by faith, we pray accordingly…

"Heavenly Father, show me where I am walking with You in accordance with Your presence, involvement, truth, and working in my heart and life.  And show me where I am not."

Few prayers likely more delight the heart of our Heavenly Father.  And few prayers will He more answer as we seek to respond to reality, the reality of the Lord Jesus as the Life of our lives, the light of our path, and the hope of our walking thereupon.

"O send out Thy light and Thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto Thy holy hill, and to Thy tabernacles."
(Psalm 43:3)
"For with thee is the fountain of life: in Thy light shall we see light."
(Psalm 36:9)

Weekly Memory Verse
We have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin."
(Hebrews 4:15)
