"Thy Confidence"
Determined. Consistent. Persistent. Undaunted. Relentless. All these, and countless other characteristics of unwavering faithfulness, describe our Lord and His ways.
"I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before Him" (Ecclesiastes 3:14).
"He will finish the work" (Romans 9:28).
"Being confident of this very thing, He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it unto the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6).
Are we "confident of this very thing?" If so, our assurance results from knowing the Lord's characteristics of consistency, based on His perfect faithfulness. This elicits a growing confidence, based on knowledge, understanding, and experience of God. No believer can long walk with God before beginning to realize how wondrously faithful He is as a matter of sublime character and superb conduct. He will always be who He is, and He will always act in accordance with His nature. "I am the Lord. I change not" (Malachi 3:6). The growing discovery of such a wonder results in growing confidence that our Heavenly Father's determined, consistent, persistent, undaunted, and relentless purposes of grace and righteousness will be fulfilled in His creation, and in our lives. Indeed, the assurance is so guaranteed that the Apostle Paul referenced the believer's ultimate glorification and likeness to Christ in the past tense. "Whom He justified, them He also glorified" (Romans 8:30).
If we "live by faith," the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit that fuels our faithfulness will result from intense focus on the faithful One we trust. "Beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, we are changed into the same image, from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (Romans 1:17; II Corinthians 3:18). The stream of our consistency flows from the mighty river of His perfect trustworthiness, known and embraced with our hearts. We trust others to the degree we know them. Thus, we seek to better know the glorious realities of our Heavenly Father's character, nature, and way. Determined. Consistent. Persistent. Undaunted. Relentless. Beginning - and continuing - our days at the throne of grace whereupon these glories of perfect integrity glimmer and radiate from the heart of God will go far in the same characteristics being revealed in us for the glory of the Lord Jesus, the blessing of others, and our own hearts filled with the peace and joy of "being confident of this very thing."
"The LORD shall be thy confidence."
(Proverbs 3:26)
Weekly Memory Verse
He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall My righteous servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.
