"The Life of Our Lives"
-3-
"To Be Known"
"Thou wilt show me the path of life. In Thy presence is fullness of joy. At Thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore" (Psalm 16:11).
We most certainly must be shown the path of life by the Lord of life Himself, especially in a lifetime wherein we "walk by faith, not by sight" (II Corinthians 5:7). We do not "see" God or His way naturally, but rather by supernatural imparting of His revealed presence. The new birth makes such awareness possible, as a dear friend recently shared with me. "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3). Newness of life in Christ institutes a progressive and growing knowledge of the Lord Jesus, with His joyful presence and eternal pleasure along the path He paved, and upon which He walks with and within us. "I will dwell in them and walk in them" (II Corinthians 6:16).
While we do well to commit ourselves to journey upon the path - "I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living" - we also recognize our dependence on Him for the motivation, guidance, and strength to maintain our journey in His realized presence, grace, and truth. "Show me Thy ways, O LORD; teach Me thy paths" (Psalm 116:9; 25:4). Only thereby can we expect to see and know by faith that God abides ever near, and that "neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39).
God desires to be known far more than we desire to know Him. The Apostle John did not refer to the Lord Jesus as "the Word" in terms of mere title, but also because of the Divine desire for Self-revelation and our awareness of His Person and presence (John 1:1). However we may perceive our personal spiritual sensitivity to God, the issue most involves our confidence of how much He purposes that we know Him. History often chronicles failing students, given access to a great teacher, who have become keen pupils and even fine scholars. The greatest of all Teachers dwells with and within born again believers, and He greatly desires that we know Him and understand His truth (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit will will show us the path of life whereupon the Lord of life treads, and whereupon we tread with Him. Our expectation of faith, based upon how much God desires to be known, prepares us to see and to respond to His beckoning…
"Call unto Me and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
(Jeremiah 33:3)
"The things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God."
(I Corinthians 2:11-12)
Weekly Memory Verse
"Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; Him shalt thou serve, and to Him shalt thou cleave."
(Deuteronomy 10:20)
