"Anticipated Lives"

     We live anticipated lives.

"His understanding is infinite" (Psalm 147:5).
"Known unto God are all His works from the beginning of the world" (Acts 15:18).

We have no personal frame of reference for such consciousness.  Human beings have no assurance of what the next moment holds, much less the events that will transpire throughout eternity.  Our expectations are often fulfilled, but never were they certain to take place when and how we anticipated.

"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that" (James 4:14-15).

Humbly acknowledging our ignorance regarding the future makes more likely and more thrilling the truth that Someone does know "what shall be on the morrow."  The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is such a one, the only one who sees time and eternity in terms of present knowledge.  Moreover, born again believers in the Lord Jesus have entrusted our well being to the Father who can be all we need because nothing we encounter will ever catch Him by surprise.  Never will there be an "Uhoh!" with God.  Never will He be startled by some unexpected event.  And never will anything occur that His infinite wisdom will not fit into His ultimate purpose of exalting His beloved Son and our beloved Savior as Lord of creation.  "God… worketh all things after the counsel of His own will" (Ephesians 1:3; 11).

We can never go too far with this consideration.  By definition, those not possessed with infinite knowledge cannot understand the reality.  God's mental capacities transcend our own beyond all comprehension.  Thus, we accept the fact, seek to understand its implications, and most of all, rest our hearts in the peace of living anticipated lives.

I don't know what tomorrow holds,
But I know who holds tomorrow
In the palm of His hand,
His nail-pierced Hand,
I know who holds tomorrow…
And this is peace, this is peace.
This is peace.

I don't know how the road will bend,
But I know I will not go without my Friend.
For deep in my spirit, His Spirit lives,
And grace for each journey I've learned that He gives.
And this is peace, this is peace.
This is peace.

I don't know what tomorrow holds,
But I know who holds tomorrow.

"Son of man, can these bones live?  And I answered, o Lord God, Thou knowest."
(Ezekiel 37:3)

Weekly Memory Verse
Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
