Orange Moon Thursday, December 15, 2022 "Room In Our Hearts"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

              "Room In Our Hearts"

"And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn" (Luke 2:7).

Had we been in Bethlehem long ago, knowing what we know, we might all have sought to obtain better accommodations for Joseph, Mary, and the wondrous Child to be born.  No room for them in the inn?  Perish the thought!  We'll find a place!

While noble in intent, that would not have been a good thing to do, or more literally, it would not have been God's thing for us to do.  Indeed, the Lord Jesus Christ did not come to dwell in earthly abodes, but rather in hearts redeemed by the grace of His life, death, and resurrection on our behalf.  Many travelers may find a suitable place in inns, but not this One who came to seek residence in very different venues.

"Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father" (Galatians 4:6).

God made human beings to serve as His spiritual dwelling place.  Sin separated us from such blessedness, but the One who bore our sins so atoned for them that the spirits of all who believe become an accepted and acceptable temple of the living God.  Thereby we become alive in His life, and thereby we live not merely as ourselves, but as ourselves inhabited, motivated, and empowered by the Holy Spirit.  "I will dwell in them and walk in them" (II Corinthians 6:16).

No room in the inn greeted the Lord Jesus upon His arrival into the world, but He finds plenty of room in hearts cleansed, born again, and made His dwelling place.  God determined it so, and could we journey to Bethlehem of long ago, we would do well to leave well enough alone.  Our Savior came for a "hope of glory" whereby He made our hearts not merely a place to lodge, but rather His very home (Colossians 1:27).  He dwells there now if we have believed, and He will be with and within us forever.  A full inn that offered no place for Him bears witness to the full hearts that were always the reason for His coming.

"The Son of man hath not where to lay his head."
(Matthew 8:20)
"And I have declared unto them Thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith Thou hast loved Me may be in them, and I in them."
(John 17:26)

Weekly Memory Verse
For with God nothing shall be impossible.
