Orange Moon Sunday, September 18, 2022 "The Same"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

(Friends, yesterday was the 47th anniversary of my having become a believer on September 17, 1975.  So, today begins my next 47. :)  I want to take the occasion to share with you what Frances and I believe to be our primary calling and emphasis as we seek to communicate our Lord and His Word.  Namely, God is perfectly and forever faithful.  The Lord Jesus Christ can be trusted with all our hearts.  And no one will ever be disappointed who does so.  The thoughts that follow reflect this most wondrous truth.  Thanks, Glen).

               "The Same"

You have likely heard the old adage, "Nothing stays the same except that nothing stays the same."  Everything in our present lives bears witness to the truth, meaning we do not want to plant the stakes of our tent too deeply in any shifting sands of a fallen world.  "The world passeth away" (I John 2:17).

We might also coin another adage: "Nothing stays the same. But Someone does."

"I am the Lord; I change not" (Malachi 3:10).
"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever" (Hebrews 13:8).

Someone exists who will be the same today as He was yesterday, and who will be the same tomorrow as He is today.  The living God eternally abides in the unchanging nature of His spiritual and moral character.  Plant the stake of our heart in Him, as it were, and a trillion eons hence it will not have moved even a fraction of a millimeter.  Thus, "he that doeth the will of God abideth forever" (I John 2:17).  That is, He who trusts the Lord Jesus Christ as the solid foundation of enduring and abiding life will know the only continuity possible for human hearts.

"Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ" (I Corinthians 3:11).

While this truth bears great significance for our prospects of eternity, it also meets us in this day and hour.  Someone exists who can be trusted with all our hearts about every aspect of our lives.  No possibility exists that His faithful character will ever deviate from its perfection.  Have we found our Lord trustworthy in the past about any matter?  Nothing about Him has been altered since that blessed hour.  He will be everything we need in the present no less than He was in our yesterdays.  Moreover, we can trust Him about the tomorrows that will find no grain of sand has shifted in the enduring rock that is Christ.  Nor will it ever.  He hath remembered His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations… They trusted in Thee, and were not confounded" (Psalm 105:8; 22:5).

No one has ever trusted in the God and Father of our Lord Jesus and been disappointed for doing so.  And no ever will.  The perfect faithfulness of "from everlasting" abides "to everlasting" (Psalm 90:2).  It abides right now, in this moment.  Thus, there is Someone to trust whose faithfulness will be found securing the heartstakes of our confidence, supplying for our every need in just the right way, at just the right time, and in just the right measure.  We can - we must - commit our confidence to Him with utmost assurance He will not fail us.  Indeed, He cannot fail us.  For if just once, He faithfully fulfilled His promises, we will find He ever and forever does the same.  Because while nothing stays the same, Someone does.

"Thou art the same."
(Psalm 102:27)
