Orange Moon Thursday, April 7, 2022 "Mindless... Mindful?"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

"Mindless… Mindful?"

Materialists believe the universe somehow formed beings that think about it, although they also believe it possesses no capacity to think about them.  In essence, a mindless, unthinking universe evolved mindful, thinking human beings.

"In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth… And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" (Genesis 1:1; 26).

Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ agree that the universe is mindless in regard to the awareness of itself and others.  We are the only beings that possess such awareness (other than angels, spiritual beings who exist and function on a different level).  Animals give no indication to this type of consciousness, being aware only of their natural and nearby environment.  Thus, humanity, created in God's image, possesses a consciousness created by the Consciousness, our Lord Himself.

In contrast to the notions of the materialist, this makes complete sense.  Consider that not only are we mindfully aware that the universe exists, we are also conscious enough to have developed amazing technology to explore and understand creation.  From microscopes to telescopes, and thousands of other tools made for the purpose of discovery, humanity uses its consciousness to learn why things are, what things are, and what our place in the universe is meant to be.  For those who somehow think that our gifts of thought originated according to natural processes that possess no thinking capacity, such a conundrum must surely at times disquiet the heart and mind.  For the believer, of course, no such enigma exists.  Since God made His creation to reveal His existence and working, we would expect He would have made our minds to discover truths about Him by discovering truths about His universe.  He did.

"The invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by that things that are made, even His eternal power and godhead" (Romans 1:20).

Of course, God created our minds for the primary purpose of knowing Him and understanding His truth.  "Thou shall love the Lord thy God… with all thy mind" (Mark 12:30).  To use our consciousness for this holy purpose leads us a heart full of light, and a life filled with the reality and vitality of the conscious God who made us in His image.  A mindless universe did not make mindful human beings.  A mindful Creator did that, and while it is a good thing to ponder His creation, we best use our minds when considering the wonders of His nature, character, and way…

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee."
(Isaiah 26:3)

Weekly Memory Verse
O taste and see that the LORD is good, blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.
(Psalm 34:8)
