"A Heart Like This"
Part 5 - Hints of Heaven
In eternity to come, when God's redemptive purposes in the Lord Jesus Christ will have been fulfilled, Heaven and the new creation will be populated by angels and humans who all perfectly bear "a Heart like this," that is, a heart unselfishly devoted to others.
"Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father" (Matthew 13:43).
Faithful angels will fulfill their purpose of ministry to God and to the redeemed (Hebrews 1:14). The Blood-washed and Spirit-enlivened sons and daughters of God in Christ will also reflect their Lord's unselfish nature, walking in self-sacrificial devotion to Him and to others. No lies will be told. No insincerity or hypocrisy will have a place. No haughty looks or proud sneers will ever be seen. Hands will be raised for, and not against one another. Every motivation will flow with the current of pure and noble intentions. Pleasing God and benefitting others will guide every step of feet traversing the path of righteousness that forever bears the nail-printed footfalls of the Lord Jesus.
We can hardly imagine such a realm of all-encompassing love. We can, however, seek in our present existence to walk in a manner that foreshadows glories to come. The Christ of then is the Christ of now to all who have believed. He dwells within us by His Spirit (Galatians 4:6). We already bear His nature of love, and while we are far from the fullness of glory we will one day know, we are near enough to our Lord to "walk, even as He walked" (Romans 5:5; I John 2:6). Indeed, born again believers bestow hints of Heaven as we live our lives through Christ for the glory of God and the blessing of others.
The world presently needs to see "a Heart like this," as revealed in hearts like ours. Our sphere of influence, whatever and wherever it may be, desperately requires Heavenly realities to illuminate, inspire, and infuse with hope. This day offers opportunities to self-sacrificially love family, friend, and foe, and thereby foreshadow glories to come. Heaven's Lord dwells within us to enable such grace whereby we serve as heralds of things to come by serving as spiritual arteries for a Heart like this.
