Orange Moon Tuesday, January 25, 2022 "Light and Mystery"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

"Light and Mystery"

I recently read a collection of letters written by two Southern authors to one another over the course of 40 years.  The correspondence involved literary considerations, personal matters, religious perspectives, dreams (some fulfilled, and others not), world events, political opinions, and memories of their long friendship.  By the end of my journey through the letters, I felt as if I knew the two gentleman to some degree, although I also realized much about them remained unknown and mysterious.

"The entrance of Thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple" (Psalm 119:130).
"Our Lord Jesus Christ, which in His times He shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords, who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting.  Amen" (I Timothy 6:14; 16).

The revelations and mysteries of the authors' correspondence reminded me of our journey into the light of God that shines in the Scriptures.  He offers far more illumination and insight that any of us have seen.  "If any man think that he knoweth anything, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know" (I Corinthians 8:2).  One of the best sensibilities any believer can maintain involves the fact what whatever we know of the Lord and His truth, we "ought to know" far more.  Paul clearly proclaimed that all waste much time and opportunity regarding the knowledge of God.  Even more importantly, we must affirm the Scriptures offer more light and insight than even eternity will allow us to fully discover.  We thus open the Bible expecting to learn and understand truth our Heavenly Father desires to reveal as the Holy Spirit leads and illuminates.

We also read the Bible in the full knowledge that mystery will forever remain regarding God and His truth.  As we often suggest in these messages, we can know some.  We can know more.  But we cannot know all.  No more thrilling thought can be contemplated!  An eternal voyage into the light of the Lord Jesus Christ beckons every believer to venture further into infinite glories of His grace and truth.  "Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (II Peter 3:18).  This command presents to us as an eternally abiding mandate.  "Come further, dive deeper, fly higher" beckons the Spirit of God regarding the Word of God.  The light we discover will not only reveal glories to be known.  It will also bear witness to wonders we cannot know, wonders of the God who draws so near to us in the Lord Jesus, but who remains so other and so beyond.  No more thrilling thought indeed.

"Call unto Me and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
(Jeremiah 33:3)
"His greatness is unsearchable."
(Psalm 145:3)

There is no end to the quest we know,
forever beckons on.
We soar in skies so bright and blue,
above all clouds of storm.

Yes, we fly into the heart of God
as in His Son we trust.
And earth will soon be nothing more
than long forgotten dust.

So spread your wings and catch the wind,
o journeyman of hope,
and race toward horizons blessed
with those who also know

That the quest of hearts is Jesus,
He is our shining sun.
It matters not how far we've come,
the journey's just begun.

Weekly Memory Verse
"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."
(I John 5:4)
