Orange Moon Monday, January 3, 2022 "Howdy Neighbor!"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

"Howdy Neighbor!"

While walking the other day, I happened upon a little girl and what appeared to be her little brother.  She could not have been more than three years old, but as I passed by, she looked up and said to me, "Howdy Neighbor!"

Of course, I "Howdy Neighbored" her right back! How could I not?  She smiled in response, I smiled, and I proceeded with my walk having been blessed out of the mouth of a babe.  I prayed for she and her family, and determined to pass by her way again in the future, hoping for another "Howdy Neighbor!" as expressed by a sweet little child (and hoping to meet her parents and tell them what a blessing of God they have in their daughter.  Of course, I am sure they already know).

Life is about such things, isn't it?  Life is about relationship, be it a brief moment being blessed by a child, or that which originates and graces all true relationship, namely, the living God who Himself eternally dwells in the fellowship of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It all begins there, in the triune bond of love that had no beginning, and will have no end.  "From everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God" (Psalm 90:2).  Indeed, all good and genuine human relationship echoes and reflects the Heart to Heart to Heart devotion that exists in our wondrous Creator and Redeemer.  Made in His image, our earthly relationships sparkle with the Heavenly realities of God's sublime nature of communication, commitment, affection, and dedication to others.  This is who He is in essence, or in the sublime succinctness expressed by the Apostle John, "God is love" (I John 4:8).

There is much to do today with our hands.  There is far more to do with our heart.  Walking in loving communion with God and people - this is life, the life of Christ as revealed in us and expressed through us.    A little child and her "Howdy Neighbor!" reminded me of such things the other day, holy things that remain with me in this day.  May our Heavenly Father grant us all much grace to remember something another sweet child - my wife Frances - says, "Life is about God and people.  Everything else is just stuff."

"Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor."
(Ephesians 5:2)
"Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."
(Matthew 22:36-39)

Weekly Memory Verse
Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor.
(Ephesians 5:2)
