"Upon the Face of the Waters"
As He did long ago upon earthly seas, the indwelling Holy Spirit ever "moves upon the face of the waters" within the hearts of born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ (Genesis 1:2). He seeks to illuminate the Person and work of our Savior, leading us to flow with the current of confidence in His willingness and ability to lead us in every aspect of our lives.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Whatever the circumstances, conditions, and situations of this moment - and of all moments - the Spirit of God presses us to "look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2). Whatever the need, Christ is supply (Philippians 4:19). Indeed, our Lord lived a life such as we live in order to know by both Divine wisdom and human experience life such as we know it. He understands far better than do we ourselves that which we face, whether of blessing, challenge, or everyday realities. He has been there, done that, and bears the prints of nails and a spear as the tokens that tell us He knows, and can be trusted. The Spirit of God moves within us to remind us of such wondrous truth, as initiated and forever enduring through so wondrous a Christ.
"His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertaineth to life and godly, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue" (II Peter 1:3).
Where might the Spirit of God presently move upon the waters of our hearts and lives? What stream of His life leads us to trust the Lord Jesus in confident devotion to His perfect faithfulness? How does the grace promised for every moment of our eternal existence find its way to this moment, and to this condition or circumstance? What sparkle of Light shining upon the waters illuminates the face of the Lord Jesus as bearing directly upon our hearts and our lives? While we may not know exactly how the Spirit moves, we can be sure that He does. We can also be assured that the Christ ever revealed and exalted by the Holy Spirit will be found as all we need Him to be (John 15:26; 16:14). Yes, the Spirit faithfully moves upon and within us to lead us to the Lord Jesus as the Light of the world, the Life of our lives, and the Hope of our hearts.
"For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."
(II Corinthians 4:6)
Weekly Memory Verse
