"Show Up - Revisited"
Over the years, I have shared with you a governing principle I seek to follow by God's grace, namely, to show up. That is, if we arrive at the doorstep of our responsibilities, good things can happen as the Lord honors our faithfulness to Him and to people. "Here am I, send me" said Isaiah to the Lord, who did indeed dispatch His servant to wayward Israel with a message of great warning, but also great prophetic significance regarding the Lord Jesus Christ and God's historical purposes in Him (Isaiah 6:8).
Of late, I have considered much about how our showing up originates and proceeds with God's perfect and personal application of the principle. He always shows up where He purposes and promises to be. "Thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds" proclaimed the Psalmist (Psalm 36:5). God's faithfulness also reaches unto every venue of responsibility where His involvement is needed and appropriate. This, of course, means He shows up everywhere, in all things. "By Him, all things consist… upholding all things by the word of His power" (Colossians 1:17; Hebrews 1:3). Creation teems with His devoted fulfillment of the responsibilities commissioned by His own character, nature, and purpose. He has been, is now, and will always be where He should be. Yes, God shows up.
Such blessed truth constitutes the foundation and provides the enabling of our trustworthiness. Day by day, the Holy Spirit beckons believers to the altar whereupon we sacrifice any notion of a life undirected by our Heavenly Father's will and purpose. Indeed, we show up at this altar first and foremost, and go forth in the reflected light of God's faithfulness as the empowerment of our own. This leads to the various places of responsibility where showing up means we have the opportunity to effectively serve God and people. So, beginning our days by showing up at the altar of consecration means we can be confident our Lord will lead us to show up for the fulfillment of other callings, other duties, and other blessed responsibilities where He will be awaiting us with grace for our tasks. Because of this we can be sure: God always shows up.
"Great is Thy faithfulness."
(Lamentations 3:23)
