Orange Moon "The Most Important Relationship"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

"The Most Important Relationship"

The most important relationship in our lives is the same for all of us.

"Jesus is the Son of God… The Father loveth the Son… I love the Father" (I John 4:15; John 3:35; 14:31)

The loving bond between God the Father and God the Son, as revealed by God the Holy Spirit, comprises the most important relationship for every human being.  Consider first that salvation begins with our responding to the revelation that the Lord Jesus is God's Son.

"These are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name" (John 20:31).

Consider also that the Christian life proceeds according to our belief in the sonship of Christ to the Father.

"Who is he that overcometh, but he that believeth Jesus is the Son of God?" (I John 5:5).

Why is the relationship of the Father and Son so fundamental to our life of faith and faithfulness?  Chiefly, because along with the Holy Spirit, the Father and the Son comprise the essence of all reality.  Only the triune God has existed "from everlasting," meaning that before our Lord chose to create angels, the universe, and human beings, He alone dwelt as the only uncreated and underived being (Psalm 90:2).  All other things exist only because the Lord made and sustains them.  Thus, to perceive the fundamental essence of truth and reality, we must know the Father and Son, as revealed by the Holy Spirit.  "This is life eternal, that they might know Thee, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent" (John 17:3).

Moreover, because God is a personal being, we must know Him in accordance with His relationship of love as Father and Son.  We cannot rightly know God otherwise, and thus the devotion of Father and Son to one another must be viewed as the very heart of our understanding and faith.  "Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God" (I John 4:15).

One cannot be saved without believing the Lord Jesus is the Son of God.  Nor can one adequately understand and respond to Scripture without seeking a growing awareness of the Holy Spirit's Biblical revelation of the Father and Son.  Yes, the Father loves the Son.  The Son loves the Father.  The Spirit bears witness.  This is the light, the life, and the love of God.  And this is glory we know as believers, the most important relationship in our lives.

"I am My Father are one."

(John 10:30)

"This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

(Matthew 3:17)

"I do always those things that please Him."

(John 8:29)

Weekly Memory Verse

And when they had fulfilled all that was written of Him, they took Him down from the tree, and laid Him in a sepulcher. But God raised Him from the dead.

(Acts 13:29-30).
