Orange Moon "The Same"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

   "The Same"

In this present world, nothing stays the same except that nothing stays the same.

"The world passeth away" (I John 2:17).

All things in a fallen creation exist in a state of passing.  Indeed, find the most seemingly still object.  Regardless of its appearance of static immobility, the object actually consists of minute atomic movement beyond our ability to measure.  Moreover, it moves through space on a spinning planet that races around a sun, which itself sprints through s solar system, which dashes in its galaxy, which… well, you get the picture.  Nothing stays where it is, and nothing stays the same except that nothing stays the same.

Thus, we can and must look for something that does not change, something so perfect in substance and being that it cannot be other than what it is.  That "something" is a Someone.

"I am the Lord, I change not" (Malachi 3:6).

"Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever" (Hebrews 13:8).

The God who was perfectly faithful to His own glorious nature yesterday will be the same immutable God today, tomorrow, and forevermore.  He will be the same Father who keeps every promise He ever makes.  He will be the same Savior who "ever liveth the make intercession for them" (Hebrews 7:25).  He will be the same Holy Spirit who comes to stay forever when He enters the hearts of those who trust the Lord Jesus.  He will be the same, the only One of whom this can be said.  "I AM" declared our God to Moses, a name just as perfectly fitting and appropriate in this moment as it was when the servant of God first heard his Lord so directly and definitively identify Himself (Exodus 3:14).

No truth more stills and secures our hearts than this blessed assurance of the One whose character, nature, and being eternally remains the same.  There is someone - Someone - to trust "with all thine heart" because He cannot be other than who He is (Proverbs 3:5).  So, in this moving moment of our earthly lives, we do well to think of other moments that have already passed. "Did I find the Lord faithful then?"  We did, and thus we can trust Him now regardless of anything that presents itself on the doorstep of our hearts and lives.  Because while nothing of this present world stays the same, the One whose heart we trust abides both now and forevermore as the Same.  This is who He is, and He cannot be other.

"The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms."

(Deuteronomy 33:27)

"The Son abideth ever" (John 8:35)

" I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever."

(John 14:16)

Weekly Memory Verse
