Orange Moon "The Little Things"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

   "The Little Things"

Life involves a relatively few big things, that is, experiences both pleasant and unpleasant that have obviously great influence.  Life also involves countless little things, that is, experiences that actually have greater significance because of their number and continual influence.

God… worketh all things after the counsel of His own will" (Ephesians 1:3; 11).

"The little foxes… spoil the vines" (Song of Solomon 2:15).

Our Heavenly Father injects eternal significance into the briefest moments.  We frequently do not think in such terms, or realize the nature of His working.  I thought about this earlier this morning when a very minor notion of insecurity crossed my mind.  The "little fox" sought to "spoil the vine" of my sense of peace in Christ.  Again, the matter was so small as to seemingly warrant little attention or response.  I remembered, however, that the temptation offered an opportunity to trust the Lord - "What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee" - and that the experience involved far more than a mere moment in time (Psalm 56:3).  Eternity loomed and beckoned my heart to rest in Christ, promising the moment would redound with benefit forevermore as I responded to the Lord.  I did so by God's grace, and of course, do not know how the matter specifically fits into God's working and purposes (although it did lead to writing this message!).

Life comes at us fast and hard.  More importantly, the Lord Jesus comes to us in all, promising His involved and active presence.  "I am with you always" (Matthew 28:20).  We miss most of what He is doing (and wouldn't understand even if He tried to explain).  However, we do not have to miss all.  Our best response is to believe the truth of the God involved and active in all things, and to be ready for opportunities of trusting and submitting to Him.  Our lives flow far more with the current directed by the little things than the big, and this day will offer many such moments in which to open the eyes of our hearts to see by faith our Lord infusing time with the glory of eternity.

"I will look for Him."

(Isaiah 8:17)

"And He said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake.   And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice."

(I Kings 19:11-12)

Weekly Memory Verse

Keep thy heart with all diligence.  For out of it are the issues of life.
