Orange Moon "Bombarded"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe…

   "Bombarded"

My paternal grandparents owned a farm that became a seminal part of my youth.  They lived five miles from the nearest town, and ventured there only as necessary.  By the time I became a part of their lives, they had radio and television.  However, for much of their lives, they lived as did many other people, hearing little of the events of the world and not influenced on a continual basis by the media onslaught that presently characterizes modern life.

Of course, most of humanity has lived this way for most of human history.  Thinking about this always raises the question in my mind: is the human psyche meant to be constantly bombarded by information, ideas, and images?   I don't think so, and while I very much appreciate our access to information, I wonder if in real terms of the heart, our losses may actually prove to be greater than our gains?

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try (test) the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world" (I John 4:1).

The Apostle John reveals the obvious truth that deceiving spirits and voices have always been in the world.  However, only recently have the devil and his minions had such opportunity to constantly foment their lies and unrest on the unsuspecting (and even on the suspecting).  I thought of this earlier today when a news feed on my phone presented a disturbing thought that was clearly intended to present a disturbing thought.  I felt the troubling unrest the purveyors sought to foist on whoever might unwisely expose themselves to their fearful notion.  I should have known better than to wander into their trap, although it did provide opportunity to trust the Lord for His peace and to pray about the issue raised.  "What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee" (Psalm 56:3).

Without the information superhighway, it is difficult to see how Biblical prophecy could be fulfilled.  Therefore, we take heart in knowing our Lord is working to fulfill His ultimate purposes even amid the growing darkness.  "God… worketh all things after the counsel of His own will" (Ephesians 1:3; 11).  We nevertheless do well to be aware that a liar exists in the present world who ever seeks to deceive and mislead us by countless voices who serve as his mouthpiece.  Failure to realize this means we have fallen victim already, meaning we must seek our Heavenly Father for His corrective and protective light.  Indeed, may He lead us to Himself and His truth, and may we be ever watchful in the realization that much of what we hear and see in this present hour is simply not true.

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."

(I Peter 5:8)

"But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived."

(II Timothy 3:13)
